This Week In Pictures

St. Mary's School in Middlebury held their sixth grade graduation on June eighteenth with a Mass at 10 am. Eleven students will be going on to seventh grade in the various schools in the county. We wish them well and believe the values learned at St. Mary's School will serve them well at the new schools. The following students received certificates, front row, Emily Ohlinger, Olivia Foshay, Olivia Carpenter, Sarah Boe, Sophia Abdul Sater, Conor Higgins, back row, Sam Ferguson, Heidi Meyer, Sam Usilton, Matthew Krause and Allison Hatch.

Businesses at the Corner of Merchants Row and Center St. in Rutland’s Main business district are still fueling the effects of a torrential downpour that sent storm drain water into their establishments in late June. This photo was taken from Depot Park on Wednesday June 26th 2008. Most of the businesses effected are well on their way to recovery. The city’s outdated storm drains remain a vexing problem.

Rising Irish group O'hAnleigh, whose music has been heard on radio stations in 36 countries, played at this year's Vermont History Expo in Tunbridge. The name got converted from Gaelic to Hanley in crossing the Atlantic, and the group's leader is no other than Middlebury's own Irish cop, Chief of Police Tom Hanley. The singing of Rebecca Hanley (at Tom's left) is one of their strengths, and the versatile Cindy Hill (banjo here, fiddle at other times, alto vocals) is one reason they can do so much as a trio. Their debut CD
