LINDA S. BASLOW

MIDDLEBURY: Linda S. Baslow, 66, a lifelong resident of Middlebury died Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Porter Hospital following a sudden illness.
Born in Salisbury May 19, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Laurette Whitney.  
    Linda was employed as a home healthcare worker and was retired.  She was a graduate of Middlebury Union High School.  
    Linda was a very dedicated mother and grandmother, always willing to selflessly help her family and others.  She will be greatly missed.
    Family members include her son, Todd A. Forbes and his wife Kye Sun of Middlebury; two daughters, Wendy Jean McCalie of Salisbury and Jennifer L. Hier and her husband Eric of Wells; three brothers, John Whitney of Cornwall, Barry Whitney of Salisbury and Scott Whitney of Salisbury; one sister, Jill Smith of Middlebury seven grandchildren with a soon expected great grandchild.
    A celebration of her life took place Saturday August 2, at the home of  Todd and Kye Sun Forbes.

 

Grace Ann Lyons

BRANDON: Grace Ann Lyons, age 81, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Wintergreen Residential Care in Brandon.
    Ms; Lyons was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 18, 1932. She was the daughter of John and Blanche (Guise) Hydell. She grew up in Brooklyn where she received her early education and was graduated from Bishop McDonald High School, class of 1950. She was one of the first women to become a New York City Police Officer. She performed her duty in the borough of Manhattan until being forced to retire, due to a disability in 1974. She has been a resident of Brandon since 1990 moving here from Towaco, NJ. She had worked for several years in the Rutland Unemployment Office. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon, and had been a volunteer for at the Brandon Free Public Library. She was an avid reader and loved her dogs and cats.
    Surviving are 2 daughters; Kathie Ingrassia of Brick, NJ and Susan Lyons of Rutland, 2 sons; James Collins of Cedar Knolls, NJ and Robert Lyons of Budd Lake, NJ. 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 nieces and several cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by her sister; Joan Hydell.
    A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, August 2, 2014  at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon. The Rev. Ruel Tumangday was the celebrant. A private burial will take place at a later date.
    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; The Rutland County Humane Society, 765 Stevens Road, Pittsford, VT 05763.
