Macdonough, Master Commandant, was 30 in 1813, in command of the U.S. Naval force on Lake Champlain during the War of 1812 with Britain. The Navy Shipyard at the base of the Falls on Otter Creek at Vergennes was the base of operations for the fleet, built and outfittered there in 1813-1814.
