Local Student Named to Keene State Dean’s List

About 1,000 students have been named to the fall 2006 dean’s list at Keene State College.  Jon Paul Paquette of Middlebury was our local honoree.

To qualify for the dean’s list, Keene State undergraduates must be enrolled in a degree program; they must have completed a minimum of six credit hours in the semester, receiving no failing or incomplete grades.  Students must achieve a 3.5 or higher grade point average on a 4.0 scale to earn dean’s list honors.

Keene State College, a member of the University System of New Hampshire, is New Hampshire’s public liberal arts college.  Keene State offers 35 programs of study as well as individualized majors, service learning, and national and international exchanges.

The campus, with 21st-century technology housed in traditional ivy-covered brick buildings, is located in the Monadnock Region of southwestern New Hampshire.  The College has an enrollment of 5,200 full-and part-time students.

Local Resident Achieves Honorable Rank of Eagle Scout

Jonathon Kimball, son of Kurt and Theresa Kimball of Brandon, has achieved the honorable rank of Eagle Scout after following a fun and fulfilling journey along the scouting trail. His numerous experiences, which included camp-outs, summer camps, hiking the long trail, two fifty mile canoe trips in Vermont, and fishing the White River, have given Jonathon many fond memories and valuable life lessons. He upholds the values of scout law by helping others, and doing a good turn daily.

In September of 2006, Jonathon earned the rank of Eagle Scout after earning 32 merit badges, 11 of which were required and the remaining 21 were completed at his own discretion and liking. The badge that was most challenging for Jon to earn was the Environmental Sciences requirements, which consisted of observing nature at Sly pond at Camp Wakponimee, and concluding an essay. He took great pleasure in completing his merit badge for Fishing as he is, and always has been an avid fisherman.

Jonathon’s Eagle project consisted of creating a safer playing environment for children at the swing set of the Pittsford Recreation Center, as well as giving the Center’s baseball dugouts a facelift. Jonathon was helped by a host of volunteers and sponsors in his endeavor. Jonathon would like to thank his family, friends, and community for all their support in his journey through scouts.
