Armand E. Compagna

BRISTOL - Armand E. Compagna, 64, passed sway peacefully on Friday January 12, 2007 at his home after a short illness.

   He was born on September 26, 1942 in Morrisville the son of Edward and Irene (Sweetser) Compagna.

   Armand graduated from Peoples Academy and New Mode Barber School. He opened Armand’s Barber Shop in Bristol over 40 years ago.

   He was a member of St. Ambrose Church in Bristol.

   Armand was a past member of the Addison County Sheriffs Dept., Bristol and Vergennes Police Dept. and Bristol Rescue Squad. He was a Bristol Selectman.

   He was an avid fisherman, hunter and camper.

   Armand’s greatest love was his family , his  grandchildren and sporting events.

   He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sharon (Dubuque) Compagna of Bristol, two daughters, Cristy Goyette and her partner Joe Fortune of Ferrisburgh, Wendy and her husband Frank Lossmann of Bristol, six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Joseph, Mitchell, Ryan, Jeffrey and Nick, sister Arlene and Earl Welch of Morrisville, several nieces and nephews.

   A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday Jan 16  at St Ambrose Church in Bristol. Interment will be in Mt. St Joseph Cemetery in Bristol at a later date.   Contributions may be made in Armand’s name to the Addison County Home Health and Hospice, Middlebury 05753 or Bristol Rescue Squad, Bristol 05443.

Gladys I. O’Connor

MIDDLEBURY - Gladys I. O’Connor died January 14, 2007 peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at Helen Porter Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.  

   Gladys was born on April 19, 1921 to Blanche and Joseph Farrell in Bellows Falls, Vt.  She graduated from Bellows Falls High School, class of 1940.

   On Oct. 12, 1940, Gladys married Robert  A. O’Connor.  They made their home in Saxtons River, Vt.  Bob predeceased her on Sept. 6, 1980.  

   Gladys was an active member of Christ’s Church in Saxtons River.  She found great joy in Women’s Fellowship, Coffee Place and the many other facets of the church.

   She worked for Clark’s Plumbing and Heating for 17 years, Cota & Cota Plumbing & Heating and Vt Academy, retiring in 2001.

   Her greatest joys in life were found in her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren.

   Gladys is survived by her daughter Donna (O’Connor) Carpenter and husband Russell Charles Carpenter of Middlebury; her grandchildren Deborah Deering and husband David of Middlebury, Brian Carpenter and wife Nanette of Middlebury and Melissa Gill of Middlebury; great grandchildren Mathew Deering and wife Lisa of Shoreham, Patrick Deering, Robert and Nicholas Gill, Olivia and Spencer Carpenter all of Middlebury.

   Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fenton and Hennessey in Bellows Falls, Vt.  In honoring Gladys’ request, there were no visiting hours.  The funeral was held at Christ’s Church, Saxtons River, Vt on Friday January 19.

   In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to Christ’s Church, Box 649, Saxtons River, Vt. 05154.

   The family wishes to thank Dr. Lewis Holmes, Dr. Scott Smith, Porter Hospital, and Helen Porter Rehabilitation Center for the professional, loving care given to our mother, grandmother, as well as the support given to our family during  her month long stay in Middlebury.

Fenwick W. Estey

Starksboro- Fenwick W. Estey 82, died peacefully, January 18, 2007, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

      He was born in Orange MA., on April 19, 1924, the son of Fenwick S and Eltheda (Ward) Estey.

      Fenwick's complete devotion to the town of Starksboro was clear in the many ways he served as Town Clerk, Treasurer, and Fire Warden.

      He was a founding member of the Starksboro Volunteer Fire Department, where he actively served for 48 years, 28 years as fire chief.

    Fenwick was honored by the Fire Service in 1986 as the Addison County Fire Chief of the Year and by the Vermont State Fire Fighters Association in 1994 when he was given the Vermont Fire Chief of the year award. He was a life member of
Starksboro Volunteer Fire Department, Addison County Fire Fighters Association, and an honorary member of the Hinesburg Fire Department.

    Fenwick worked for 17 years as custodian and bus driver for Robinson Elementary School. He was also a skilled carpenter and spent many years building and remodeling homes throughout the area.

    Fenwick was a devoted catholic and proud member of St. Jude's Roman Catholic Church.
He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, loved by all who knew him. He had an amazing sense of humor that will be greatly missed.

    He is survived by his children: Tom and Cheryl Estey of Starksboro, David and Veronica Estey of Hinesburg, Dennis and Peg Casey of Starksboro, Larry and Jane Bissonette of Hinesburg, and Michael and Kimberly Estey of New Haven. His Grandchildren: Tracey and David Orvis, Becky and Brian Rollins, Trichia and Chris Chaput, Matt and Elisabeth Estey, James and Karen Kenyon, Koran and Greg Cousino, Dennise Casey, Sarah Estey, Michaela Casey, Kendrick Bissonette, Jordan Estey and Chad Estey. He is also survived by 9 Great Grandchildren, a sister Edythe Estey of New Jersey, a brother Frank and his wife Anne Estey of Connecticut, a sister Nancy and her husband Hugh Hallock of Oregon, a brother- in-law Harland Wendel of Bristol, brother-in-law Charles Steady of New Haven, a sister- in-law Lelah and her husband Charles Reed of Addison, a sister-in-law Ruth Quesnel of Middlebury, and many nieces and nephews.

    Fenwick is predeceased by his parents, his wife Paulita Estey in 1993, a brother Richard Estey, and sisters Joanne Wendel and Eltheda Steady.

    A mass of Christian Burial was  celebrated in St. Jude's Roman Catholic Church in Hinesburg on Monday Jan. 22 at 11 a.m. . Burial will follow immediately after at Green Mountain Cemetery in Starksboro.
