About 180 supporters, clients and staff of the Counseling Service of Addison County gathered on Thursday, November 16 at the Middlebury American Legion for CSAC's annual meeting program and dinner. Awards were presented to longtime staff members, including Ed Lieberman, the agency's Eldercare Coordinator, Peter Lebenbaum, Associate Director of Youth and Family Services, and Mary Pepe, Executive Assistant. Also honored were staff members Penny Curler, Bill Barrows, Joyce Dupoise, Shannon Dunbar and Ron Hynes of the Men's Home on Seminary Street in Middlebury, along with residents Tom Hier, Matt LaFountain, Wayman Norton, Dan Stokes and Mike Mueller. Community members honored were Nancy Wollum of Middlebury, Coordinator of Mosaic Theater, and Donnaleen Farwell of Chittenden, an advocate for developmental services.

The meeting launched the community phase of the agency's capital campaign, Building for a Caring Community. This campaign, which seeks to raise $650,000 toward new and improved facilities for the Counseling Service, has already raised over $490,000 from 125 gifts and pledges. Campaign Chair Ken Perine announced an anonymous challenge grant of $25,000, and introduced Maggie Quinn as Chair of the Community Campaign. During this part of the campaign, under the title Bring It On Home, the agency will reach out more broadly to people in Addison County with letters, neighborhood gatherings, and individual visits. Maggie Quinn reported on plans to organize the campaign in the Vergennes, Bristol, and Middlebury areas, and expressed confidence that people will respond and support an agency which provides mental health and developmental services to about 2,000 Addison County residents each year.
