Cornwall Maple Hill Country Store
A Holiday Destination

Tuesday December 12, 2006

By Bridget Dorman

In pursuit to find the perfect Christmas tree, you just may happen upon the Iocco family and their budding business in Cornwall, The Maple Hill Country Store.  Here, you can find and order local Christmas trees, wreaths and garland from the Sinclair farm in Ripton.  The family store also carries other locally made soaps, hand painted gift items, signs, wood ware, quilts and paintings.  Presently, Valerie and Gordon Iocco and three of their four sons all partake in the family business, and each offer a unique talent that makes their store a unique find and worthy of being found.

Sons Gregory and Benjamin Iocco, age twenty-three and twenty-one, are self-taught artists who partner their efforts to create folk art paintings, as well as rock paintings, which are for sale in the store. Giclee replications of their work, a new highly advanced method of copying original prints onto canvas, are also available for purchase.

While the Iocco brothers have received many accolades for their talent, they have yet to exhibit their art in other venues.  So, as of yet, one must travel down route 30 in Cornwall, to the Maple Hill Country Store, and there, beside the warm woodstove, hanging next to Valerie’s hand-made quilts, are the Iocco brother’s paintings.

The Family moved to Vermont from Michigan five and a half years ago and recently they hosted their 3rd annual open house, at their home in Cornwall, an open invitation to visitors and neighbors to meet the family and cap off their holiday shopping.

Gordon Iocco and his sons also make Adirondack furniture, trellises and arbors, a skill the family began crafting in Michigan and hope they have found a niche for in Vermont.  The Iocco family has kindly created a destination that evades the hustle and bustle of the holidays and provides an environment where you can take in the smell of balsam, the warmth of a fire and the luxury of Christmas shopping in Cornwall.
