C. Harold Rickard

BRISTOL-C. Harold Rickard, 88, died Thursday, November 23, 2006 at Living Well Care Home in Bristol.

   He was born on May 17, 1918 in Muskogee, OK, the son of Carleton Homer and Daisy (Wilson) Rickard.

   Harold graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield, KS and Boston Seminary.  He and his wife, Margaret, served in churches in Danby-Four-Corners and Essex Jct., VT in the 1940's before going to Japan as missionaries for 32 years.  They retired to Golden, CO in 1982.  They were strong advocates for peace throughout their lives.

   Harold was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Bauman) Rickard and his brother Marvin Rickard.
   He is survived by five children, Katherine Walker and husband John of Bonner Springs, KS; Jean Tomson and husband Moran of Johnson, KS; Robert Rickard and wife Sharon of Moore, OK; Maurine Weaver and husband Ross of Farmington, NH; and Louise Rickard
and husband Matthew Ennis of Lincoln, VT.; eleven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

   Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol made cremation arrangements.

   There will be a memorial service for him at a later date in Golden, CO.

   Harold's family would like to thank all those in this area who reached out in love and friendship to him in his final year and a half, when he again lived in Vermont.

 

Frederic Malcus Carlstrom

BRISTOL-Frederic Malcus Carlstrom, devoted husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully November 24, 2006 at the age of 90.

   He was born in Bridport Conn. September 30, 1916, the only child of Malcus and Freida ( Abrahamson) Carlstrom. He graduated from Bristol High School, served in the US Army, before retiring from General Electric of Burlington after 25 years of service. He then worked, along side his wife Ruby, as tour guides for the Shelburne Museum.

   His passion was being a Fire Fighter for the Bristol Fire Department, rarely missing a fire call in his 30 plus years of dedicated service.

   He leaves his wife of 60 years, Ruby ( Labounty ) Carlstrom of Bristol. Two daughters, Jackie Aube of Bristol and Stacey Miller of West Addison.
As well as being a loving husband and father, he loved spending time with his seven grandchildren, Lisa Grover, Mark Aube, Kari Aube, Matt Aube, Katie Miller, Jesse Tynan and Madison Perkins and his.5 great grand children, Ileigh, Mathew, Milo, Lucas and Madison Rose.

   A special Thank You to Amy Rochon, her family, and Mark Gebo of Bristol for the TLC they showed Fred during his last few months.

   Funeral services were held at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol. Interment followed  in Greenwood Cemetery in Bristol.  Contributions can be made in Fred's Memory to the Bristol Fire Department, in care of Chief Mark Bouvier.

 

Margaret J. Serafin

Shoreham-Margaret Josephine Serafin died peacefully on Friday November 24, 2006 at Shard Villa in Salisbury VT.

   She was born December 25, 1911 in Bridgeport, CT the daughter of Andrew and Anna Jontos (Csontos).

   Widow of Leon Felix, Margaret was married in May 1935 in St. John's Nepomasine Church, Bridgeport. Margaret and Leon raised two sons in Bridgeport, moving the family to Pinewood Lake, Trumbull in 1954. Margaret was an accomplished typist, retiring from Edward Isaac's, Inc in 1976. A devoted wife and mother, Margaret enjoyed living on the lake and Sunday gatherings with her family. She was a proud grandmother, traveling often to Vermont to spend time with her grandchildren. Together, she and Leon moved to Vermont in 2000.

   Margaret is survived by sons David and his wife Linda, of Shoreham VT and Robert and his wife Viktoria of Glen NY. Margaret also leaves four grandchildren: Deborah and Michael Orvis of Bristol VT, David Jr and Julie Serafin of Livingston MT, Alan Serafin of Billings MT, and Gail Serafin of Shoreham VT: and nine great grandchildren.

   Margaret was predeceased by brother Andrew and sisters Anna and Francis.

   The family is grateful for the loving care provided to Margaret by her dear friends Deb, Dave, and Kate.

    A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday November 29th at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Bristol. Interment will be at Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery in Bristol. There will be no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Bristol VT. Brown McClay Funeral Home in Bristol will be in charge of arrangements.

 

Garry Elzinga

WEST FERRISBURGH - On Sunday, November 26, the Lord took to Himself Garry Elzinga, loving husband, father and grandfather. Born June 27, 1929 in Niemerdum, Friesland, The Netherlands, to Gerben Elzinga and Woltje Bokma, Garry emigrated to the United States in 1947. He married Julia VanderPloeg on February 1, 1956. They lived in New Jersey, New York, and settled in Vermont in 1966. Garry was a farmer until his retirement in 1994.                                                      

   He is survived by his wife, Julia, five daughters: Grace Elzinga, Peabody MA, Bill & Wanda Holbrook, Ionia MI, Pat Elzinga, Alexandria VA, Bert and Betty Dykshoorn, Goshen NY, and Tena Elzinga, West Ferrisburgh; he is also survived by three grandchildren, Julie, Caitlin, and Oliver. Surviving him are a brother, Symon, and two sisters, Jantje Schurer and Ada VanDeWeert, as well as sister's and brother's in-law and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Grace and Joanne.

   Garry was an active member of the New Haven United Reformed Church, as well as a member of the Gideon's International. He enjoyed attending the Thursday Morning Men's Bible Study at Burdick's Country Kitchen. Garry enjoyed his trips to the coffee shop, a good joke, and his cats and dogs. He was a man with large hands, a huge heart, a listening ear, and a friendly smile for everyone! He sincerely loved his Lord and Savior and his family and friends

   A funeral service was held  on Friday December 1st at New Haven United Reformed Church. Interment will be in Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes. Donations in Garry's memory can be sent to the Champlain Valley Christian School Building Fund, Vergennes VT, the Gideon's Intl c/o Hank Nop Route 7 Salisbury VT, or Addison Home Health and Hospice Route 7 Middlebury, VT. Funeral arrangements are being made by Brown-McClay Funeral Home, Vergennes VT

 

Elizabeth M. Wheeler

Glen Burnie, Maryland— Elizabeth M. Wheeler, 83 died Sunday November 26, 2006 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Maryland.

    She was born May 6, 1923 in Cornwall, VT the daughter of Edward and Julia (Shackett) Murray.

    Predeceased by her husband Morris Edward Wheeler Sr. on March 15, 1978.

    Elizabeth is survived by three children, Patrick Gregoire of Montclair, Virginia; Morris Wheeler Jr. of Glen Burnie, Maryland; Cheryl Shatney of Hillsboro, NH; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

    A memorial service was held  Friday December 1st at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Bristol. Interment will be at a later date. . Brown McClay Funeral Home in Bristol will be in charge of arrangements.
