American Legion Auxiliary Unit #27 Collecting Donations

Tuesday November 7, 2006

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit #27 in Middlebury is kicking off a campaign to collect personal care products from businesses and individuals in our community to be directly distributed to our soldiers serving overseas.  Donations will be made to the organization Angels ‘N Camouflage, which has set up several programs and has the security clearance necessary to distribute donations directly to our troops stationed in conflict zones.  The Auxiliary will arrange the shipping of donations through Angels ‘N Camouflage.  This drive will begin October 16, 2006 and run through November 20, 2006.  We’d like to ship these items early enough so our soldiers can receive them before the holidays.

Many of our soldiers in remote areas lack personal hygiene products that we take for granted everyday.  One of the programs that has been established by Angel ‘N Camouflage for getting these products to soldiers overseas is Operation First Responders.  Operation First Responders are backpacks, daypacks and tote bags filled with these products.

Please help by making a donation of any of the products* listed below.  Our goal is to be able to ship enough products to help fill about 500 of these packs.  Your donations will make a difference in the lives of many of our soldiers.  These items are considered luxuries to a lot of our troops.  Any donation you can make would make life for our soldiers a little more pleasant in a very unpleasant situation.

Monetary donations are also appreciated so we can purchase items for shipping overseas (checks can be made payable to:  American Legion Auxiliary Unit #27 {please write in memo:  Operation First Responders}, and can be dropped off at the locations listed below).

Shampoo/Conditioner Body wipes
Sunscreen Combs/Brushes
Deodorant                     Moisturizing lotion
Lip Balm                        Hand Sanitizers
Travel size First Aid Kit    Toothpaste/Toothbrushes
Soap                             Bug Spray
Tampons                       Razors/Shaving cream

Snacks (any non-perishable treat that you think a soldier would enjoy!)

*Please note that sample sizes are nice, but we would like our soldiers to get more than one use out of an item (we suggest at least travel size items which offer several uses verses the sample sizes which provide one time uses) but would prefer regular size items since many soldiers may receive only one pack during their  deployment and regular size items would last longer for them.

Donations can  be dropped off at the American Legion Post #27 - Wilson Rd., Middlebury, 388-9311, and at the following participating salons:

Court Street Hair Designs - Court St., Middlebury, 388-4247 Delilah’s - 16 Center St., Brandon, 247-3345 MJ Designs - Route 125, E. Middlebury, 388-2887 Texture - 34 N. Pleasant St., Middlebury, 388-9449 Total Image Salon - 213 Court St., Middlebury, 388-6263
