Arnold (Arnie) Clifford Barrows

Vergennes - Arnold (Arnie) Clifford Barrows, 79 died on Tuesday September 26, 2006 at his home in Vergennes after a long illness.

He was born May 27, 1927 in Vergennes, the son of Nelie (Moses)Adams and Clifford Barrows.

He joined the Army in 1945 at the young age of 18 and served his country during World War II. He was stationed in Germany during the famous Nuremberg trials.

On October 1st , 1948 he married Cecilia (Lucy) Whitman, the love of his life in Rutland. They would have been married 58 years this October. Arnold was employed for all of his adult life at Simmonds Precision Products Inc. in Vergennes (B.F. Goodrich). Arnold was well known for his love of the outdoors and was an avid hunter in his younger years.

Although Arnold enjoyed many hobbies, his life would best be defined by his love of family.

Arnold is survived by his wife, Cecilia Barrows of Vergennes; his daughter Christine Hatch and her husband Bill of Brandon; his son Steven Barrows and his wife Jodi of Vergennes; grandchildren Will and his wife Cindy Hatch, Betsey, Lindsey and Amy Barrows; his great grandchildren Allison and Liam Hatch and a sister Catherine Adams of Vergennes. He leaves many nieces and nephews as well. He was predeceased by a brother Raymond Barrows and a sister Helen Swinton.

A graveside service was held on Friday September 29th at Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes. There were no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Addison County Home Health & Hospice Route 7 Middlebury, VT 05753, or Vergennes Area Rescue Squad P.O. Box 11 Vergennes, VT 05491. Arrangements are under the care of the Brown-McClay Funeral Home at 48 South Maple St. in Vergennes, VT 05491  The family would like to thank Addison County Home Health Care & Hospice for the special care they gave to Arnie.

Mark W. Reese

Lincoln - Mark W. Reese, age 51, died in an experimental aircraft accident on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 in Cornwall.

He was born January 23, 1955 in Erie, Pennsylvania the son of William and Carol (Tennant) Reese.

Mark is survived by his wife, Marybeth McCaffrey of Lincoln and three brothers: Dan Reese of Erie, Pennsylvania; Tim Reese of State College, Pennsylvania; Matthew Reese of Alexandria, Virginia; a sister, Rebecca Silfies of Portmouth, New Hampshire; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brother, Paul Reese.  

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, September 27th  at Peet Field (off Route 30) in Cornwall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made either to the Lincoln Library, Attn. Linda Norton, Lincoln, VT 05443 or to the EAA Young Eagles Program, EAA Development, P.O. Box 3086, Oshkosh, WI 54903-3086 (One of Mark's favorite expressions was, “It's never too late to have a happy childhood.”)

Calvin R. Minor

New Haven - Calvin R. Minor 63 died unexpectedly Wednesday September 20, 2006 in Cornwall.

He was born July 4, 1943 in Springfield, Mass the son of Calvin and Doris (Reynolds) Minor.

He became a New Testament Christian in 1978, and served the Lord Jesus as a member of the Addison County church of Christ for the past twenty years.

Calvin is survived by his wife Pat Minor of New Haven; two children Shannon and Arlon Minor; a brother David and a sister Susan; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many cousins.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday Sept 26th at New Haven Town Hall. Everyone was invited over to the house after the memorial service for a reception. There was a time of sharing at the reception. All who attended were invited to bring pictures, written stories, and other memorabilia to be placed in a memory book. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a Children's Fund c/o Beeman Academy 50 North St. New Haven, VT 05472. Brown McClay Funeral Home in Bristol will be in charge of arrangements.

Robert D. Young

Orwell - Robert D. Young of Orwell, VT passed away peacefully on September 24, 2006 at his home.

Bob was born in Orwell June 28, 1915, son of Russell S. Young and Mabel Wells Young. He was educated in Orwell schools, Burr & Burton Seminary and Norwich University receiving a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1936.

He married Margery Aileen Plue September 5, 1936 and they recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

He led the First National Bank of  Orwell for more than 70 years as Casier, CEO and Director. He was elected Town Treasurer and Trustee of Public Funds from 1945 until 1985. He was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church of Orwell and served as Treasurer, Deacon, keeper of the town clock and caretaker of the lawns for many years.

He was raised as a Master Mason October 7, 1937 at Independance Lodge #10 F & AM in Orwell and served as Master and Treasurer.

He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Heidt, a son, Bruce H. Young and Bruce’s wife Rosalind. He was survived by his wife Margery and their four other sons; Robert C. Young and his wife Kathryn of Burlington, Roger S. Young and his wife Dale, Peter B. Young and his wife Barbara and Mark S. Young and his wife Susan all of Orwell. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service celebrating his life was held on September 30 at the First Congregational Church of Orwell.
