The Vergennes Commodores had a long week of soccer this past week. It began on Saturday, with the two Homecoming games. The girls started off the day against the Mount Abraham Eagles. In less than ten minutes, Commodore junior Abby Benton scored, bringing Vergennes to the lead.

With eighteen minutes in the half, Vergennes pulled together and really worked as a team, aiding Benton in the second goal of the game. The score at the end of the half was 2-0, Commodores. In the second half, Mount Abraham started off strong, scoring on Vergennes‚ sophomore goalie Meghan Scott-Tisbert. This was the first goal scored on Scott-Tisbert this season. A minute later, the Commodores retaliated, and junior Abby Benton made a great attempt to score, but bounced it off the top bar. A mere three minutes later Benton came back and scored for Vergennes.

That was the last goal of the game. The game ended 3-1, Vergennes. That afternoon, it was the Vergennes boys‚ turn to face off against the Eagles. Both teams played tough in the beginning, but with eighteen minutes left in the first half, Mount Abraham got one past Vergennes goalie Joe Chugg. Nine minutes later, they were able to do it again, making the score at the halfway mark 2-0, Eagles.

In the second half, Commodore junior Elias Gallien scored the first goal for his team with twenty minutes on the clock. But, five minutes later, Mount Abraham struck again, making the score 3-1. With less than eight minutes in the game, the Eagles scored one final time, sealing their victory. The final score was 4-1, Mount Abraham.

Monday, the boys took on Green Mountain Valley. Five minutes into the game, Commodore junior Corey Haight scored the first, and as it would turn out, last goal of the game. The half, and ultimately the game ended with a score of 1-0, Vergennes.

Junior goalie Joe Chugg made some great saves in his first shut-out of the season.

Wednesday, the boys played once again, this time against the Middlebury Tigers. The game was played very well by both teams, and each schools defense was on top of their game.

The game was scoreless, and overtime became necessary. The first overtime went without a score. The second overtime, now sudden death was different. With less than a minute left in the second overtime, the Tigers shot at Chugg. As he dove to save the ball, it bounced and just slipped by him. A Middlebury player was nearby and gave the ball the final kick it needed to win them the game.

The final score of this tough and well played game was 1-0, Middlebury.

Finally, on Thursday the girls played Middlebury. Within the first ten minutes Abby Benton had struck again, scoring on the Tigers.

The remainder of the half went without any goals. In the second half, Benton came back and helped secure another victory for the team. The final score of the game was 2-0, Vergennes.

This was an amazing week of soccer and all teams involved should be very proud of the way they played.
