Richard James Hawkins Sr.

Ferrisburgh - Richard James Hawkins Sr., 73 son of Witeman Hawkins and Bernice LaMotte, died very peacefully with his family by his side, Thursday August 3, at Fletcher Allen Health Care, after a short battle with cancer.

He was born January 11, 1933 in Ferrisburgh.

He was a veteran of the US Army and he was a member of American Legion Post #14 in Vergennes, Vergennes Odd Fellows, and Dorchester Lodge #1 F&AM of Vergennes, and among other things he enjoyed driving school bus for most of his adult life. He was most recently employed by his son Randy at A&D Automotive in Vergennes.

Richard is survived by his wife of 50 years Norma (Beck) Hawkins and their seven children Terry Ulmer and his wife Clara, Donald Ulmer and his wife Terry all from New Jersey, Richard J. Hawkins Jr. and his wife Linda from Maine, Randy Hawkins and his wife Betty from Addison, VT, Gail Mitchell and her husband George from PA, Laurie Hawkins, and Alan Hawkins both from Ferrisburgh, VT He also had the pleasure of 15 grandchildren, one of which was his best buddy, and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters and two brothers, Beverly Field and her husband Bill of Middlebury, Sonnie Sears of Vergennes, Paul Hawkins and Chester Hawkins and his wife Connie. He has many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Martha Hawkins.

A funeral and Masonic service was held on Saturday August 12th at Vergennes Congregational Church. Interment followed at Gage Cemetery in Ferrisburgh.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society 121 Connor Way Williston, VT 05495, or Vergennes Area Rescue Squad PO Box 11 Vergennes, VT 05491. Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes will be in charge of arrangements.

Betty R. Weremeichik

Middlebury - Betty R. Weremeichik 48 died Saturday August 5, 2006 at Fletcher Allen Healthcare in Burlington.

She was born June 12, 1958 in Burlington the daughter of Frank and Mary Goodrich.

Betty collected teapots, avid reader, enjoyed musicals especially those with Elvis Presley in them. She was a daughter, sister, and friend, generous in thought and deed and always their to help family and friends, willing to sacrifice her time and energy on someone else’s behalf, and will be sorely missed.

Betty is survived by her mother Mary Goodrich of Bristol; three brothers John, Todd, and Frank; four sisters Mary, Amanda, Dorothy, and Frances; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated on  Wednesday August 9th at St. Ambrose Church in Bristol. Interment followed in Green Mount Cemetery in Starksboro. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society 121 Connor Way Williston, VT 05495, or Muscle Dystrophy Foundation Fletcher Allen Health Care 111 Colchester Ave Burlington, VT 05401.
