Marion Bannister

VERGENNES – Marion Elaine Miller Bannister passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on June 20th, 2006. She was 69 years old. Marion was born on May 22nd, 1937 in Burlington, VT, the daughter of Ernest G. Miller and Gertrude (LeBeau) Miller.

She married Kenneth Bannister on June 13th, 1957. Marion worked at Simmond's for a short time and then she and Ken bought and ran Ken's Market in North Ferrisburgh for seven years. In 1985 they started Bannister Real Estate next to their home. After Ken's death in 1995 Marion continued to operate the business with the help of many dedicated staff members. Marion also enjoyed working at Kennedy Brothers, assisting with elderly care, and volunteering at Fletcher Allen in the ICU.

Marion was a life long resident of Vergennes and graduated from the Vergennes High School in 1956. Marion's life centered around her children and grandchildren. She and Ken enjoyed camping, traveling and sleepovers with her grandchildren. Marion was an active member of St. Peter's Church.

The family wishes to thank the following for their unwavering care and support: Addison County Home Health, especially Jane Kearns; Dr. Kevin Mulholland of Bristol Internal Medicine; Dr. Paul Unger and his staff at VCCM, Bernadette LaBerge her friend and caregiver, and the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad.

Marion is survived by her two sons, Kenneth and his wife Laurie of Middlebury; and David of Addison. She is also survived by the lights of her life, her grandchildren Ben, Beth, Mary Kathryn, Jamison and Grace. She is also survived by her brother Gerald Miller and his wife Patty of Inverness, Florida and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth, sister Judy and daughter-in-law Roxanne.

A mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Vergennes on Thursday, June 22nd. Interment followed at the Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes. Contributions may be made in memory of Marion to either The American Cancer Society or to the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad.

John-Paul Mailloux

FERRISBURGH – John-Paul Mailloux, 90, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2006, following a long illness. He was lovingly cared for in his home by his wife and family.

He was born in St. Valentine, Quebec, on May 17, 1916, the son of John-Louis and Doria (Ethier) Mailloux.

He married Jeannette Bouvier on April 29, 1950. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jeannette, and their 7 children; Ginette Baker and her husband Don of Maine; John-Louis Mailloux and his wife Susan of Williamstown, VT; Denis Mailloux and his wife Sally of New Haven, VT; Paul Maillloux and his wife Lu-Anne of Ferrisburgh, VT; Jacqueline Marshall and her husband David of Gobles, MI; Giselaine McClay and her husband Thomas of Ferrisburgh, VT; Ernest Mailloux and his wife Amy of Ferrisburgh, VT; 33 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings Fern Kelly and her husband William of MA; Simone Laramie of MA; and Laurette Brunet of FL. John was predeceased by brothers; Maurice Mailloux and Gerard Brunet; and great-granddaughter Rebekah Baker.

He loyally served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. His hobbies included woodworking, boating, fishing, trapping, hunting, and traveling in his motor home.

John was a self-employed beekeeper who established Green Mountain Honey Farms and Mailloux’s Vermont Country Farm Market in Ferrisburgh.

He was a faithful member and communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Vergennes.

John loved his family and enjoyed sharing the many stories of his life. He will always be greatly loved and missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 85 South Maple Street, on Friday, June 23, 2006 at 11 a.m. Interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Middlebury following the Mass. Donations may be made in John’s memory to the Vergennes Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 11, Vergennes, VT 05491.

WARD  TRUAX

SALISBURY- Ward Benjamin Truax, 56, of Maple St., passed peacefully in his sleep June 19, 2006.

Born in Burlington, VT January 30, 1950, he was the son of the late Henry and Helen (Ward) Truax.

Ward honorably served in the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam Era and had been employed at Standard Register for the past thirty years.

Ward will be lovingly remembered for his determined dedication to his family.  He took great pleasure in being involved in his children’s sports, music and special interests.  His family will cherish the memory of his unique sense of humor.  He was a hard worker who taught his family to appreciate the value of the simpler things in life.

Family members include his wife of 29 years, Gay (Wells) Truax of Salisbury; a son Benjamin Travis Truax of Cornwall, a daughter, Brianna Smith of Bristol, a son Ira Ward Truax of Salisbury, a son, Dominggus and his wife Becky Paliling of New Haven, a granddaughter, Isabella Smith; a son-in-law, Jazz Smith ; honorary daughters, Kiki, Aryu and Iriene; brothers, George Truax and his wife Wendy of Lincoln, Mike Truax of Lincoln, Mark Truax of Lincoln; his mother-in-law, Anna Wells of Lincoln; sisters-in-law, Leath Meunier and husband Robert of Lincoln, Ellen and Lester Rotax of New Haven, Kathleen Wells of Lincoln, and brother-in-law, Fred Wells, Jr. of Starksborough and various nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Henry Truax and his father-in-law, Fred Wells.  Memorial donations may be made to Ira Ward Truax College Fund, c/o Doug McCullum, c/o  National Bank of Middlebury, 30 Main St., Middlebury, VT 05753.

JENNIFER SHELDON

CASTLETON-Jennifer M. Sheldon, 44 of Castleton, passed away Monday, June 12th in New Haven as the result of an automobile accident.

Jennifer was born June 1, 1962 in Rutland, the daughter of Edwin M. Sheldon and Mary Ellen (Price) Sheldon of Castleton.

Jennifer attended local schools, graduating with honors in 1980 from Fair Haven Union High School.

While a student at FHUHS, she broke ground for young women athletes, lettering in three sports: field hockey, basketball and softball while maintaining a rigorous academic schedule At Castleton State College, Jennifer earned her degree as a registered nurse and was licensed in both Vermont and New York.   Her nursing career focused on providing quality, compassionate care to the elderly. Jennifer will be remembered by many  families around the state for providing exceptional nursing care to their loved ones during her years of service to residents of nursing homes in central and northern Vermont.

While in her late 20s, Jennifer was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. She battled that cancer with her usual good humor and positive attitude. Jennifer  used her exceptional seamstress skills to design a new head scarf for herself and other women who had lost their hair to chemotherapy, making the affects of chemotherapy a fashion statement.  She shared the pattern and scarves she designed and created  freely with other women afflicted by the disease.

Jennifer was devoted to her sons. She also had an exceptional capacity to empathize with those who needed a helping hand, whether human or animal. Just days before her unexpected death, Jennifer brought home a pregnant cat in need of a place to give birth. Jennifer acted as midwife to the cat and her four kitten‚s just days before her own passing.

Jennifer was predeceased by her father. She is survived by her mother of Castleton; three brothers, Stephen Price Sheldon of Fair Haven,Vt., Eben P. Sheldon of Worcester, MA, Christopher E. Sheldon of Westerly, R.I.; two sons, Jacob  M. Flood and Trevor D. Laughlin of Castleton; aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Jennifer‚s life  was held on Friday, June 16th  at St. Peter’s Church in Rutland.  Officiant was be Rev. Andre Houle, Pastor.   Private Committal services and interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fair Haven. Pallbearers were  Stephen Sheldon, Jacob Flood,  Eben Sheldon, Christopher Sheldon.  

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jennifer’s memory to the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure , a charity devoted to eradicating breast cancer,  C/O : Mallory Funeral Home, 4 South Park Place, Fair Haven, VT.
