ELF Day At Addison Central School

Tuesday June 6, 2006

On May 16, 2006 the students of Addison Central School had the opportunity to  learn outside of the classroom by taking a trip to Dead Creek access area!

For the last two years ACS has been providing the ELF (environmental learning for the future) program to the students.

It is taught through the Vermont Institute of Natural Science. Children have been given the opportunity to learn from community members and exposed to learning outside of the classroom. The program has been a huge success!

Every month there is a new subject to learn and explore. This months ELF subject was Frogs & Polliwogs.

This was a great way to introduce our children to the amazing environment we live in, here in Addison,Vermont!

ELF day was split into several activities consisting of pond exploration, watercolor paintings with a focus on environmental surroundings and games that related to the distance that a frog could jump compared to humans, their ability to feed and sounds made by a variety of frogs!

The expressions on our children’s faces were absolutely priceless! We will never forget the looks they made when they caught their first frog, scooped up a polliwog within the nets, simply getting wet or watching parents leap like a frog! This event was great! The event was made possible by our school, ACS PTA, teachers, community members, Dead Creek Management area, and the generous donation of Casella Waste Management!

Thank you to all those involved, you made this special opportunity for our students a reality!
