LCDR (Ret.), Charles F. Lathrop

Bristol - Charles "Chick" Lathrop of Bristol passed-on May 20, 2006.

He was born on December 11,1925 in Bristol the son of Mitchell and Perlie (Thompson) Lathrop.

A 1943 graduate of Bristol High School and 1953 graduate of The University of Vermont, Chick retired from the United States Navy in June 1970. His military career spanned enlisted service in WWII and commissioned officer service in Korea and Viet Nam. Sea and shore duty assignments included CVA II, DD 537, MAAG Laos, MACV (SOG) Viet Nam and retirement as the US Navy and Marine Corps Liaison Officer to the 21st Air Force Military Airlift Command at McGuire AFB, NJ. He was a life-long member of Middlebury Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7823 and Bristol American Legion Post 14. He was a member of Bristol Libanus Lodge #47 F&AM and Bristol Eastern Star Libanus Chapter #47. Chick was Bristol Town Clerk for several years.

Chuck is survived by his wife of over 35 years, Helen Phelps Lathrop; stepchildren Steve Tierney and wife Debbie, Jona Tierney and wife Marlaine, Kelly Tierney and friend Cindy, Jodi and Joe Provoncha; grandchildren Jamie Tierney, Keegan Tierney, Kelsey Tierney, Justin Tierney, Sheala Tierney, Hillary Provoncha and Courtney Provoncha; he was `Pa' to great-grandchildren Gabriel Cousino and Tierney Provoncha; his sister Lorraine Hallock and brother Richard and wife Pat; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Masonic service of remembrance will be held on June 4 at 1 PM at the Masonic Temple in Bristol; followed by a memorial service and luncheon at 2 PM at the Bristol American Legion Post 14.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Masonic Temple Building Fund or the Lawrence Memorial Library, both in Bristol.

James F. Porter Sr.

Vergennes - James F. Porter Sr. 59, died Monday, May 22, 2006 at his home in Vergennes.

He was born on November 9, 1946 in Schenectady, NY. the son of Leo and Alice (Proctor) Porter.

James enjoyed playing bingo, woodworking, working on cars, spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Marlene Porter of Vergennes, two sons James F Porter Jr. and Carlie Porter both of Vergennes, three grandchildren, Anthony Porter, Lisa Porter, Tyler Porter, three sisters Rita Porter, Evelyn DeForest, Kathleen Porter all of Lawrence, MA. Four brothers, Donald Porter of Middlebury, Fred Porter of Lawrence, MA. Paul Porter of Starksboro, Edward Porter of Brandon, several nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by a twin sister Mary Demers.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, May 26 at St. Peter’s Church in Vergennes. Interment will be at a later date.  Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 121 Connor Way, Suite 240, PO Box 1460, Williston, VT 05495 or Addison County Home Health and Hospice, Middlebury 05753.
