Raymond Paul Pellegrini

Bristol— Raymond Pellegrini passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 7, 2006. He was the son of Joseph C. and Mildred (Bevilacqua) Pellegrini, and was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 23, 1950. A graduate of SUNY at Oneonta, he began his teaching career at Herringswell Manor School in Bury St. Edmunds, England. He later earned his M.A. in Educational Leadership from Castleton State College.

Upon his return, he began 32 years as an educator and administrator in the schools of Vermont, and it can be truly said that over the years, he has had and will have an impact on the life of every child in the state of Vermont. He taught and coached and was principal at Mt. Abraham UHS for 12 years, was a teaching principal at Monkton Elementary School for 5 years, served as principal at Middlebury Union Middle School for 10 years, was Superintendent of Schools in Milton for 2 years, and had served as the Executive Director of Vermont PrincipaIs’ Association since July 2003.

Known as a champion of children and a children's champion, he has been recognized for his service and devotion and earned several awards, including Outstanding Teacher, MAUHS; UVM Outstanding Teacher Award; and the John Winton Award (Middle Level Principal of the Year). He served on the Board of Directors of Vermont Middle Level Educators and the Secondary School Commission of NEASC. He established such programs as the Education Recognition Program and Study Circles. He also implemented breakfast programs, and created the "Challenge Diploma". He also supported schools in their efforts to be accepted as a member of "Foundation for Excellent Schools".

Active as an advocate for primary and secondary education in the state legislature, he was a recognized authority on curriculum, administration, and issues of equality, justice, and protection for all in the Vermont school system.

Within Addison County, he was a Little League coach, Tiger Scout leader, the Five Town Business Council in Bristol. He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.

Family mattered most of all to him. His pride in his children was evident, and he was the beloved father of Christopher and his wife Kim Yong-Nam of Tokyo, Japan; Scott and friend Anna Ayres of San Diego, Calif.; and Katie and her fiancé Aaron Welch of Burlington. He and his wife, the Rev. Lucy C.B. Pellegrini, recently celebrated 31 years of marriage. He is also survived by his parents, Joseph and Mildred of Dorset, VT; his sister and her husband, Darinda and Peter Salinetti of Schnectady, NY and their 3 sons; his mother and father-in-law, Sylvia and Charles Bergen of Middlebury, VT; brothers and sisters-in law Bill Bergen and Beth Meyer of Charlottesville, VA; Reed and Emily Bergen of Clarksville, TN and their 2 sons; and Roger Bergen and Sharon Grutzmacher of Ellison Bay, WI and their son and daughter. He was predeceased by his brother Donald in 1993. He is also survived by many aunts and uncles, cousins and their children. He will be missed by all who called him friend, colleague, teacher, community members, and especially by his co-workers at the VPA.

There was a Rite of Christian Burial with Holy Eucharist at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Middlebury, Vermont, Friday, May 12. There will a Celebration and Remembrance of Ray’s life of service to the children of Vermont on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Mt. Abraham Union High School, Bristol, Vermont, with a reception to following.

Lois M. Whittemore

Bristol— Lois M. Whittemore, 61, died Tuesday, May 9,2006, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

She was born on May 8, 1945 in Springfield, VT the daughter of Charles and Grace (Hall) Veysel.

Lois is survived by two daughters Tammy Ketcham and her husband Matthew of Middlebury, Laurie Whittemore of Bristol, grandson Cody Greene of Bristol, brother Richard Veysel of NH. several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held Friday May 12 at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol. Interment well be at a later date.  Contributions may be made to the Addison County Home Health and Hospice, Middlebury 05753

Eleanor J. Munger

Orwell— Eleanor J. Munger, age 95 passed away May 10, 2006 at the Addison House Community Care Home, Middlebury.  She was born in Orwell, VT June 27, 1910 the daughter of Clyde and Edith (Spaulding) Munger. Eleanor was a lifelong resident of Orwell where she lived with her parents and helped care for them in their later years. . She attended  Brandon High School and graduated from Vermont Academy in 1927. Ms. Munger attended Castleton State College and graduated from the University Of Vermont in 1941. Ms. Munger was an Elementary School Teacher in Brandon for over 30 years. She retired in 1974

Eleanor was a member of the Orwell Fortnightly Club and the Union Chapter of the Eastern Star in Brandon. She was a member of the Rutland Retired Teachers Association   and the Orwell Congregational Church.

Eleanor is survived by numerous cousins and her many friends in the Orwell Community.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday at the Orwell Congregational Church.  The Rev. John Teteault, Pastor officiated.

Graveside committal services and burial followed in the Mountain View Cemetery, Orwell.
