Cornwall Boxing Club manager/trainer Brian Gill talks strategy with Brayton Gillette after round one of what has to be described as a war with his opponent Ken Canning of Strong Heart Boxing of Morrisville Vt., during the Dartmouth College Club Sports “Fight Night” on Saturday night May 6th, 2006 in Hanover New Hampshire. Gillette took all Canning could dish out including two right hands to the head that floored the Vermonter twice in the early moments of round one. Gillette came off the canvas and unleashed a torrent of hooks to the body and head. One punch closed Canning’s left eye and another sent him to the canvas for the third eight count of the round between the two fighters. The brawl continued with Gillette now clearly the aggressor. The Cornwall Heavyweight was landing heavy punches to the body and head of Canning as the bell sounded ending the round. Dr. Kane Anderson of Hanover examined Canning between rounds after referee Mike Isham discovered a large hematoma in the boxers mouth. The bout was stopped and Gillette was declared the winner because his opponent could not continue. Gillette plans to continue to train and compete in other bouts this summer. The promoter for this event was Ernie Farrar of St. Albans Vt.
