ALBERT JESSE CORBETT

MIDDLEBURY— Albert “Al” Jesse Corbett, 77, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, at his home. He was born in Colebrook, N.H., on April 20, 1928; the eldest son of the late Gerald and Doris Keene Corbett.

Al was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1991 from Agway after 43 years of service. He was a past director of Addison County and Field Days. He was a proud Life Member of the Middlebury Fire Department having served 40 years. He was a 50 year member of Caledonia Lodge No. 98, F&AM; a member of Libanus Chapter No. 47; and Past Patron, Order of the Eastern Star and a member of American Legion Post No. 27. He attended the Bridport Congregational Church.

Al was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed going to various ballgames and faithfully supported the Boston Red Sox. He liked to snowmobile, golf and bowl. He spent many hours sipping coffee while chatting with friends at Rosie's and perfecting the appearance of his lawn. He had a great sense of humor and loved his family.

Al is survived by, Mary, his wife of 51 years, whom he married on July 17, 1954; their children and spouses, Sue and Malcolm Collins of Brandon, and Steve and Mary Corbett of Chickamauga, GA; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Kimberly and Scott Doane, and Sadie, Janel, Jacob, Hattie, Levi, Amos and Elsie Corbett; a brother Marshall of Kalispell, MT; a sister, Geraldine Kruger of Hampden, MA; brothers and sisters in-law; father- in- law, Harold Cutting, of Irasburg, VT; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brother, Col. Roy Corbett.

A memorial service was held on March 8 at the United Methodist Church in Middlebury. Burial will be in Colebrook, NH at a later date.

Charlotte (Betty) Royce

North Ferrisburgh— Charlotte (Betty) Royce, 84, died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Vermont Respite House in Williston following a brief illness.

She was born on September 12, 1921 in Brattleboro the daughter of Frederic and Jessie (Ransom) Abbey.

Betty group up in Charlotte, graduated from Burlington High School in 1938 and Stockbridge School of Agriculture in 1941. She spent the War years working at Bristol Nurseries in Bristol, CT.

After the war she worked for her father at Garden Side Nurseries in Shelburne.

On November 1, 1952 Betty married Edwin F. Royce. They farmed in North Ferrisburgh until his retirement in 1988. Betty was predeceased by Edwin in 1991.

In 2000 Betty moved to Fern Hill in Burlington.

She was an active member of the North Ferrisburgh United Methodist Church and later the 1st United Methodist Church in Burlington. Betty was a 4-H member and leader. She was also a member of the Homemaker and Forest & Field Club.

Betty is survived by three children, Frederick Royce of Brownington, Dwight and his wife Susan Royce of Burlington, Katharine and her husband Michael Quinn of North Ferrisburgh. Three grandchildren, Turner Royce, Rachel Quinn, Margaret Quinn, two step grandchildren Chelle and Roxann, sister Jean Wrisley of NY several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday Mar 15 at the North Ferrisburgh United Methodist Church. Interment will be in North Ferrisburgh Cemetery in the spring. Contributions may be made to the Lewis Creek Association, 442 Lewis Creek Road, Charlotte 05445.

Elizabeth Everett Keeley

Panton— Elizabeth Everett Keeley of Panton, Vermont died on Saturday March 15, 2006 surrounded by her family and friends.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband Charles Keeley; daughter Beth Keeley-Crane of Portland, Oregon; sons Thomas Keeley of Lake Forest, CA, Charlie Keeley of Portland, Oregon, James Keeley of Woodland, WA and Murphy Keeley of Grand Rapids, MI; brothers John C. Everett of Scituate, MA and Peter C. Everett of Florida. In addition Elizabeth was blessed with 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Born on July 4, 1929 in Boston, MA, Elizabeth grew up in Nashua, NH and summered in Scihiate, MA. As a graduate of Rosemont College, Elizabeth worked for many years at United Airlines prior to marring Charles Keeley in 1958. In 1969 the Keeleys moved to Okemos, MI to raise their five children and Elizabeth dedicated herself as a fulltime “home engineer” as she often referred to herself. She was an avid reader, golfer, baseball fan, and enjoyed politics. In 1998, she and Charles returned to their native New England when they settled in Panton, VT. to enjoy the beautiful scenery. She was active with several local and state charitable and political organizations and enjoyed the friends and acquaintances in the community. Elizabeth will be remembered for her Irish ways, super laugh, quick wit, refined elegance and gracious gatherings with friends and family. As a 4th of July baby, her determination, patriotism and independence were characteristics that will stay in our memories forever.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Saturday March 18th at St. Peters Catholic Church in Vergennes. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Vermont Right to Life Committee Educational Trust Fund PO Box 1079 Montpelier, VT 05601.
