On Saturday, March 4th, Mount Abraham traveled to Vergennes to play in the second round of the Division II playoffs. The 2pm game attracted one of, if not, the biggest crowds to date in Vergennes. An hour before the game was scheduled to begin the line to enter the gym snaked through several hallways in Vergennes Union High School and consisted of hundreds of people. The bleachers filled to capacity quickly, so the remaining fans had to stand in the corners of the gym. The huge crowd was a testament to the rivalry these two schools have formed and the intensity that usually plays a key role in the games.

Both times these two teams have met during the regular season the game was decided by less than four points, each team capturing one win. Although this game started as close as usual, the game eventually tuned into a blowout. The Commodores jumped to a small lead in the first quarter and extended it by two points with a buzzer beater shot by Josh Darragh to go into the second quarter up by five. The Eagles were able to stick around with the Commodores during the second quarter ending the half only down by eight.

The second half was all about the Commodores. In the third quarter Vergennes outscored the Eagles by 17 points and held them to only five points. The Commodore's run was a result of good guard play and outstanding rebounding. The Eagles were getting some good looks at baskets but couldn't get them to fall. Before the game ended the Commodores were up by a margin of 2-1. Their biggest lead was over 30 points. The game concluded with Vergennes on top 65-38. The Vergennes boys will travel to Barre to face Fair Haven in the semifinals.
