In the second quarter, the Commodores caught up, and continued to score.
The Vergennes defense kicked it up, letting only 5 points by. The half ended 29-13. The Commodores cooled off a bit in the third quarter, as the MSJ defense became tougher. But, Vergennes was able to maintain their lead, ending the third 34-24. In the final quarter, the Commodores sealed their back-to-back championship. The final score was 53-34, Vergennes. They were aided by senior Jessica Jaggars, who put her heart into this game. Jaggars has 28 points and 20 rebounds. When asked about her emotions, she responded, “How does it feel? Wow, I have been asked that so many times. It’s amazing, back-to-back championships. No words can really explain how it feels. It’s my senior year and we go out with a blast. No one could end their high school basketball career any better than this.” High scorers for MSJ were Natalie Marchese and Liz Forte with 12 points each. For the Commodores, this was the perfect end to a great season. And in the words of Jessica Jaggars, “It doesn’t get any sweeter than this.”
