Robert Paquette

New Haven— Robert Paquette, 65 passed away Tuesday February 28, 2006 surrounded by his family at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
    He was born November 27, 1940 in New Haven the son of Leonard and Alice (Rheaume) Paquette.
    Robert was a member of Addison County Eagles Club in Vergennes, St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Bristol, and past member of Knights of Columbus in Middlebury. He was employed at Champlain Construction in Middlebury for 40 years. He had a love for Nascar, woodworking in his shop, and spending time with his family and friends.
    Robert is survived by his wife of 42 years Joyce Paquette of New Haven, two children Debbie and husband Jeff Cousino of Lincoln, Dennis and wife Jessica Paquette of Bridport, five grandchildren, Megan, Josh, Jason Paquette, Sara and Andrew Cousino, two sisters Lucile Cousino of Bristol, Rita Tatro of Gainesvoort, NY, two brothers Maurice J. Paquette and wife Millie of Ferrisburgh, Emile A. Paquette and wife Marjorie of Bristol, several nieces and nephews
    A mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday March 4th at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Bristol. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in New Haven. Contributions may be made to New Haven Fire Department & First Response Attn. Chief Dyksta P.O. Box 121 New Haven, VT 05472.

 

Jeremiah R. Peryea

Vergennes— Jeremiah R. Peryea, 28 died Tuesday February 28, 2006 at his home in Vergennes.
    He was born June 29, 1977 in Middlebury the son of Ray and Mary Ann (Mitchell) Peryea.
    He was a member of Vergennes Fire Department Heavy Rescue and Vergennes Area Rescue Squad.
    Jeremiah is survived by his wife Billie-Jo Peryea of Vergennes, a son Tyler Booska of Rutland, his parents Ray and Mary Ann Peryea of Lincoln, his adopted brother Kevin Charbonneau and wife Nikki of Vergennes.
    A memorial service was held Monday, March 6th at Vergennes American Legion Post #14. Interment will be at a later date. There were no public calling hours. Contributions may be made to a Scholarship Fund in memory of Jeremiah Attn. Ray and Mary Ann Peryea 3447 Ripton Rd Lincoln, VT 05443. Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes will be in charge of arrangements.

 

Melvin D. Carlton

Lincoln— Melvin "Doug" Carlton, 65, died Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.
    He was born on December 24, 1940, in Moultrie, Georgia to Edna Lindsey Carlton and the late Dennis C. Carlton.
    Doug retired from the U.S Navy as a CW03 after 21 years of service, followed by 14 years of employment with Kraft Foods in Middlebury.
    He is survived by his wife Marilyn Callahan Carlton, his son Michael Carlton and wife Yvette of Crestview, FL, daughter Stacy Carlton Cook and husband Paul of Greenville, SC, son Thomas Carlton of Lincoln, VT Heather Noble Carlton of Bristol, VT, a brother Mike Carlton and wife Monica of McClenny, FL and six grandchildren. Spencer and Joshua Carlton, Christian and Cameron Cook, Alex and Tommy Carlton, sister-in-law Juanita Carlton, sister-in-law Doris Coffin and husband Royal, brother-in-law Thomas Callahan and wife Terri, along with dear family friend Roxanne Racine. Doug was predeceased by granddaughter Marissa Cook and Brother Curtis Wayne Carlton.
    A memorial service was held Monday, March 6, at the United Church of Lincoln. Interment will be at a later date. Arrangements being handled by Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol.
Middlebury, VT Mrs. Lorraine Malzac

 

Lorraine Malzac

MIDDLEBURY— Lorraine Malzac, 73, died Saturday February 25, 2006.
    She was born January 14, 1933 in Ripton, VT the daughter of the late Herald & Bernice (Billings) Whittemore.
    Lorraine was a member of the Morgan Horse Association holding several offices in the association, She Was a active member of Morgan horse shows. In the past few years Lorraine and her husband have been active in the Morgan Horse Association youth club. Lorraine and her family was award family of the year from the association in the 1970's. She was also a member of the Welch Pony Association, the Otter Valley S.A.M.S. Camping Club, and was a twenty five year member of the Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association.
    In her early teens Lorraine was friends with Robert Frost and spent many evenings' playing cards with him.
    Lorraine loved working with horses and participated in the 100 mile trail ride. She was an avid hunter and enjoyed nature, sewing, knitting and making period clothing; she also made her own patterns if their was not one to be had.
    Lorraine is survived by her husband Ernest of Middlebury whom she married July 25, 1953 in St. Mary's Church in Middlebury. By her two daughters, Michelle Burritt, of Monkton, and Karen Malzac, of Middlebury, her two granddaughters, Lisa & Lindsey Burritt, of Monkton, her grandson, Cory Burritt, of Monkton, her two sisters, Patricia Hunter, of Wellesley, MA, and Jean Whittman, of Middlebury, and also by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    There will be no calling hours per the family's request. The family invites friends and family to stop by Ernest home in Middlebury.
    A Memorial service was held on Friday March 3, 2006 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev Justin Baker parish priest officiated.
    In lieu of flowers memorial contribution in memory of Lorraine may be made to the Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association at P.O. Box 504 Middlebury, VT 05753 or to the Project Independence at P.O. Box 581, Middlebury, VT 05753.

Charles Rossier

Ferrisburgh— Charles Rossier passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 4, 2006 after a courageous battle with kidney cancer.
    Charles graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelors of Mechanical Enginee-ring. He was a heavy artilleryman for the Vermont Army National Guard. He worked in the General Electric weapons division in Burlington VT on the high rate of fire feed systems for the Vulcan Cannon. Charlie purchased Devine Sales and Service in Ferrisburgh from his father, Doug Rossier in 1971. This family business was started in 1948 by Doug Rossier and his father in-law Ernest Devine. Devine Sales and Service has provided agricultural and recreation equipment for greater New England and parts of New York. His work with Bill Jenkins of White Farm Equipment led to the marketing of farm tractors to ski area's from Maine to Massachusetts. Charlie's engineering expertise was a credit to the brands he carried at Devines. He field tested, engineered and developed running changes to the 1340 Hesston Mower, the tripling function to Hesston self propelled mowers, and solved a cooling issue for Polaris Industries.
    Charlie's love for power sports began with a summer job as a mechanic at Point Bay marina. Charlie was in the pits the opening day of Thunder Road. He was a member of the Vermont Sports Car Club and was New England Champion of hill climbing in the early 70s. He was an active charter member of the Vermont Tractor Pulling Association, where he had been Vice President and Director, as well as Vermont State champion in 7000lb super stock with Super Boss, an alcohol fueled Oliver. Charlie made great strides in the tractor pulling circuit by being one of the first to fuel a pulling tractor with alcohol. He never missed a pull in the greater Addison area. Charlie also directed Addison County Field Days in the 80s, and he and his wife were members of Little Otter Snowmobile Club. Charlie loved slalom water skiing, sailing, fishing, NASCAR racing, and relaxing at his beloved camp in Lincoln. He was a man of honor, excellence, and had an incredible loving heart.
    Charles is survived by his wife Jean, his sons Tyler of Ferrisburgh and Eric and his wife, Stephanie of Lincoln, his step-children, Heidi and her husband Richard Ambrose of Vergennes with their daughter Molly, Bret Griswold and his wife Dawn of Monkton and their sons, Spencer and Patton. He is also survived by his brother Glen and his wife Kathy of Ferrisburgh and their children Emily of Troy, NY, and Ryan of Boston, MA. Sisters: Annie Ross of East Newbury and Sue of Vergennes, and parents, Douglas and Mary of Danville, as well as many caring relatives and friends.
    The calling hours are at Brown McClay Funeral home in Vergennes Friday March 10 from 2-4 and 7 to 9. The funeral will be held at the Ferrisburgh Methodist Church on Saturday Mar. 11 at 11 a.m.. Following the Funeral there will be a gathering at the Vergennes American Legion. Donations can be sent to Vergennes Area Rescue Squad and Ferrisburgh Methodist Church.
