UVM Health Network/Porter Medical Center Receives 2018 Governor’s Excellence Award

The UVM Health Network/Porter Medical Center has received the annual Governor’s Excellence in Workplace Wellness Award for the fourth consecutive year.
    The award recognizes Vermont employers for initiatives that promote onsite wellness activities for their employees.
    “Employers in Vermont have come to understand that physically fit workers are more productive, engaged and invested in their careers,” said Janet Franz, chair of the Vermont Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. “There’s a clear link between healthy, happy employees and an organization’s success.”
    Susan Bruce is Porter’s Blueprint for Health Project Manager and has chaired the Porter Wellness Committee for three years.  According to Bruce, Porter conducts two employee surveys annually and uses data from Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Vermont to identify areas of health concerns and opportunities for new workplace wellness programs.  In recent years, the areas that have been identified as priorities include stress management, exercise and nutrition.  The committee sponsors onsite programs throughout the year to support these initiatives. “We feel that as a healthcare organization we should lead by example and support our employees to reach their health goals, which benefits both the individual and the organization,” she said.  Other members of the committee include Justine Neary, Donna Chicoine, Carol Sweeney, Lyndsie Kennett, Stacey Sherman, Nicole Webb and Laura Brace.
    Governor Phil Scott presented the award to the Porter Wellness Committee on March 21 at a ceremony in Burlington.
