One of the largest volunteer networks in the nation for people 55 and over, RSVP harnesses the skills, talents and donations of volunteers to help in volunteer activities in local communities. Whether organizing neighborhood watch programs, tutoring or mentoring, renovating homes, teaching English to immigrants, assisting victims of natural disasters of providing beautifully hand knitted and sewn items, the RSVP volunteers annually brighten the lives of millions around the world.
Friday, October 27th a gathering of RSVP volunteers celebrated Warm Hands, Warm Hearts Coffee Hour in the Vermont Room at Residences at Otter Creek. Hats, scarves, blankets, dolls, lap quilts, baby outfits and bags for walkers were some of the items that were donated. Made with love and incredible skill, these donated items will be in turned passed out to residents of the Champlain Valley. “Every year the group donates thousands of hours to make handmade items including warm clothing, chemotherapy hats for cancer patients, heat packs, walker bags and more,” explained RSVP Program Coordinator Lynn Bosworth. “This year we'll distribute items to approximately 40 local schools, hospitals, nursing care facilities and social service agencies throughout the county.” Each year RSVP members donate approximately 1.5 million dollars in volunteer support to the Addison County community.  If you are interested in seeing what you can bring to RSVP, call (802)388-7044.
