Tiger quarterback Cody Pomainville lit the visitors scoreboard first with a 79-yard scamper off tackle after a gutsy 4th and three call by Coach Dennis Smith.  Once Pomainville found daylight he was gone.
Jack Donahue kicked the point and the pressure was on the Red Hawks 7-0 with 4:30 left in the first quarter but they responded.  Excellent first quarter Tiger tackling especially in the secondary kept CVU fom getting key third down conversions.  They are big, and they are quick off the ball.
CVU drove deep into Tiger territory with time running out in the first half.  A well executed halfback option pass to speedy Red Hawk junior Jason Rosner moved the ball to the Tiger 20.  A touchdown saving tackle by Pomainville and sophomore Tim Goettelman stopped Rosner from going all the way.
With the clock running out in the first half CVU quarterback Graham Walker threw a soft pass to wide-out Tommy Zych on a post pattern.  Zych had the ball in his arms but did not squeeze.  Wyatt Cameron jolted Zych and the ball fell to the ground incomplete.  The first half ended and the Tigers held a slim 7-0 advantage.
The Red Hawks looked much sharper in the 3rd quarter.  A Tiger fumble at their 40-yard line put the Hawks back in business and they responded using a punishing ground attack with Stephen Harlow at the point.  At 8:19 Shane Boehmke drove 15-yards through the middle and scored.  The two-point extra point attempt was stopped by the Tiger front four.  The score was now 7-6 Middlebury, but the Tigers would only get stronger for the rest of the contest even with rugged fullback Tyler Hotte sidelined with an injury.
Middlebury went to the air at 7:43 left in the third quarter.  Pomainville hit Zach Dunn on a 30-yard strike for pay dirt and Donahue booted the point.  The Tigers led 14-6 and were gathering steam on both sides of the ball.  The Tigers defensive line was on the prowl and the blitz was on.  They added another score when Paul Deering bulled in from the one after a sustained drive from midfield.  Once again Donahue was on the money with the point.  The Tigers were up 21-6 after three complete.
Early in the 4th CVU picked off Pomainville and then went four and out.  With 8:42 left in the game CVU turned the ball over with a fumble and the Tigers pounced.  Pomainville threw a nice 12-yard  pass to Dunn over the middle and in traffic.  The kick was good and the Tigers had some breathing room 28-6.  Their final score was notched as time was running down. Sophomore Ian Ploof #43, slashed off tackle and scored from the two after setting up the play with a big block earlier in the drive. Just up from the Jvs, Ploof showed us all that the future looks good in Tigertown as he celebrated his first touchdown as a member of the varsity.  Final score Tigers 35-6 over the Red Hawks of CVU.  They will most likely play BFA this Friday night at Saint Albans in the post-season-playoffs.
After the game Coach Smith was pleased with the way his underclassmen stepped up and how they have developed this year.  “We've been battle tested because of the schedule we've had this year.  We've had players step up and make the plays when the plays were needed and now it looks like we will be headed north to play BFA.  CVU was tough today.  They were in it well into the second half. We finally were able to get some points together in the second half and shut the game down.”
