Justin Morgan had a horse and thankfully it was at a pivotal time in American history. The American Morgan Horse Association is sponsoring a nationwide Open Barn Event on October 28th and several local barns will be open. The goal is to welcome people familiar and unfamiliar with the Morgan horse for an up-close and personal introduction to the special qualities of this breed. The Morgan is without a doubt one of the most versatile horses in the world, is inextricably linked to the shaping of the nation and has the honor of being the Vermont State Animal.
“I have had Morgan horses most of my life and currently have three in my barn,” shared Cindy Mayer of Bristol. “I am on the Board of Directors of the Vermont Morgan Horse Association and actively participate in Morgan promotional events and competition in Vermont and New England. Along with many other Morgan owners around the country and a few in Vermont, my barn will be open for visitors to support the Day of the Morgan.” People have come to appreciate this special breed of American horse for its role in agriculture, the Morgan’s intellect and ability to pull, ride, show and endure long days and extreme situations.
Consider stopping by on October 28th at Cindy and Alan Mayer’s place in Bristol, Meadowmere Farm in Vernon, Vermont, MorMac Acres in New Haven or the UVM Morgan Horse Farm in Weybridge. Bring your family because special events involving the youth and even elderly will be planned. Perhaps you would like a carriage ride or the opportunity to see up-close the horse that continues to amaze and satisfy all levels of equine fans. Please check the locations of the open barns across the country at https://www.morganhorse.com/media-events/day-of-the-morgan/participating-farms/. October 28th is a day when the nation will celebrate the Morgan horse in all its shapes and sizes and Vermont will certainly be front and center so come out and bring the family.
