Tigers Stopped By Bull Dogs 36-7

The Tigers fresh off a stunning victory at Rutland played host to the Burr and Burton Bull Dogs of Manchester, a perennial Division 2 powerhouse under Head Coach Jason Thomas and his capable staff.
    The visiting Bull Dogs were looking to spoil all that with an always tough to accomplish win at Doc Collins Field.  The Dogs were riding a 5-game winning streak.
    Would the Tigers defensive unit be a significant challenge for the upset-minded Bull Dogs who were riding an impressive 56-24 win over Spaulding High of Barre the week before?  The answer came quickly in the form of Bull Dog quarterback Jay McCoy.  McCoy amassed over 400-yards of total offense including 4-touchdown passes and a run.  He also had a 75 yard TD run called back because of a hold.  The Bull Dogs took the opening kick-off right down the field, scored and never looked back.
   The Tigers unfortunately experienced the return of the “fumble bug” and it cost them dearly.  Another problem going in was the absence of Tiger defensive back Simon Fischer who has been sidelined with an injury.  Fishcher has been an excellent two way performer for the Tigers, especially in the secondary  and on kick returns.
   The Dogs led after one 15-0 and at the half 22-0 but the Tigers did regroup in the third quarter with a time churning, ball control drive featuring the hard running of fullback Tyler Hotte with quarterback Cody Pomainville at the controls.  The Tigers also got some tough runs from Paul Deering who had to struggle for every inch he gained against a big Bull Dog defensive front led by 245 pound  Shepard Siegel and 6-2, 265 pound nose tackle Rach Robinson.  A 35-yard pass from Pomainville to Zac Dunn set the Tigers up first and goal at the 9.  Hotte slashed in for the score and the always reliable Jack Donahue kicked the point after, his 17th in a row.  That would be the last Tiger tally in the game.  Bur and Burton led with 9:10 left in the third quarter 22-7 and were able to stop Tiger scoring for the rest of the game while adding 14 more points of their own with two more McCoy engineered touchdown drives.
   A big key was the Bull Dog defensive unit being able to keep the Tigers off the board for the rest of the game.  Final score 36-7 Bull Dogs.  They are now 5-1 overall and lead Division 2 at 5-0.  There only loss was to Burlington a D1 club  in game one.  The Tigers are now 3-3 and will face Burlington at Buck Hard Field this Friday night October 13th in Burlington.  The Sea Horses are 6-0.
   It was Senior Night at Doc Collins Field for the Tigers a time to salute senior players on the roster and they include: Paul Deering, Cody Pomainville, Tucker Cummings, Dustin Davio, Jacob Martin, Wyatt Galipeau, Fyn Fernandez, Co-Capt Lane Sheldrick, Anthony Shores, Tyler Hotte, Jackson Donahue, Cooper Bullock, Carter Leggett, Co-Capt Jaro Perera, Brian Foote, Jack Deppman, Co-Capt Skyeler Devlin, and Nikolaus Kaufmann.
Friday evenings game at BHS is scheduled for a 7p.m. start.
