Fresh from a win at home the previous week, the MUHS Tiger Varsity football team was on the road and on the hill at Hartford to do Battle with their old nemesis, The Hartford Hurricanes.  The “Canes” were coming off a rare loss at home the previous week to Saint Johnsbury, a team that they had defeated in last falls D1 title game at Rutland.  The match up looked good on paper.  It wasn't.
The Tigers got things rolling in the first quarter with a sparkling 80-yard punt return, off the reverse by Simon Fischer.  Jack Donahue booted the point right down the middle and the Tigers  were up 7-0.  From that point on Hartford rolled up unofficially 366 yards of offense and held the Tigers to just over 100.   Hartford quarterback Tyler Hamilton had a excellent night in spite of his team's 12-penalties.  He tossed touchdown passes with play-action precision for the rest of the night after that brief Middlebury lead.  Hamilton who had a rough outing against Saint J. on opening night was born again accurate  against the Tigers and his offensive line was very quick and mobile.
Middlebury was up to the challenge and the first half ended 14-7 “Canes.”  It could have been worse.  The Tigers pass rush was nullified by Hartford’s roll-out blocking schemes.  Hamilton can throw on the run as well as anyone in the state in D1. Still, the Tigers made him pay to play with Skyeler and Camden Devlin making some key stops up front.  Tyler Hotte, Jack Deppman and Lane Sheldrick were also in on several key stop for Middlebury.
Hamilton's  main targets namely Nick Porter and Austin Gaudette,  had touchdown grabs, while Cody Rhodes and Porter combined for over 100-yards rushing against a good Tiger defense.  The Hurricanes were able to make the big third down plays and the Tigers could not.     Middlebury was still in it late in the third quarter but could not get any consistency on either side of the ball.   The Tigers rushed for less than 50 yards, with quarterback Cody Pomainville 3-for-7 passing for 47 total yards and one intersection.  The Tigers fumbled three times loosing two to Hartford's swarming defense.  Hartford controlled the game tempo and the clock in the second half,
