If you were a student at VUHS during 1965-2017 and wanted to connect with some of your past teachers, this past Thursday would have been a good day to do so at American Legion Post #14. The retirement party was for Pamela Taylor (VUHS Staff 1974-2017) and Cookie Steponaitis (VUHS Staff 1984-2016), but the one hundred or so who showed up included faculty from 1965 on and students from every decade since.
The flow of conversation was light, the stories hilarious and friends spent memorable time together reconnecting and catching up on life as it continues to move along. There was an abundance of  food and a wonderful cake made by Carol Volk and the gift of the day was conversation. Generations once again were assembled who have taught every subject, traveled the globe with students and students who had classes with most of or all the retired and current faculty present. “It really was a lot of fun," shared Pamela Taylor. “It was just a blast to see everyone, sharing the ‘glory days’ and hear what was going on in their lives."
“The fun was seeing past teachers, students and present teachers,” remarked Cookie Step. “Getting together generations is always fun.”
Gatherings like these bring into sharp focus the ability of time to get away from us. The real treasures of life are the people and moments that refreshes the soul and recharges our heart. Invisible threads bind us together in an intricate pattern called life. We should stop from time to time to gather, smile and be together with those who came along on the journey with us.
The Valley Voice salutes all those who gather this summer for special events where generations are gathering together to celebrate, remember and make more memories.
