WomenSafe is pleased to present the 2017 Mother’s Day card in our 16th Annual Local Women Artists Series. Addison County artist Pamela Smith’s colorful and cheerful painting, titled “Woman with Children” graces the front of our card this year. The piece is immediately inviting because of its depiction of women across the gender and age spectrum who are of many races. Women’s oppressions are often different, and only by fighting all oppressors can we have justice. To end domestic and sexual violence, we must be intersectional. “Woman with Children” beautifully depicts the women all intertwined with flowers and joining hands to come together for a common cause. Pamela created this piece using a mixture of gouache, watercorlors, ink, and crayon. It was painted in Kathmandu, Nepal. Pamela is a self-taught painter who lives in Vermont and Asia. She is a dedicated supporter of the those who access WomenSafe in Addison County. Her advocacy is thoughtful, nurturing, and holistic. She listens and interacts with people with an open heart. Pamela created the piece that is featured on this year’s Mother’s Day card. It speaks beautifully to how we all can work together to create healthy and safe relationships and communities. You are invited to honor your mother or any special person in your life who has offered the gifts of love to you and those for whom you care. In doing so, you are helping people who may not be safe this Mother’s Day. Please send a donation to WomenSafe at P.O. Box 67, Middlebury, VT 05753 along with the name and address of your chosen honoree. WomenSafe will then acknowledge your gift by sending them this heartfelt card.
