Margaret A. (Midge) Cooke

BRIDPORT – Margaret A. Cooke, 88, passed away on December 22, 2016 at the Residence at Otter Creek after a long illness.
    Born on February 9, 1928 in Middlebury VT., daughter of James and Doris (Walker) Guillow.
    Margaret retired after 30 years as office administrator with the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service. Margaret was also a long time volunteer for Neat Repeats.
    Survivors include her son James Walker and his wife Marian of Bridport, VT., a sister Agnes Novak,grandchildren, Judi and William Walker and his wife Breaya, Great-grandchildren, Jordyn,Alex,Kayden and Breaylyn Walker, a nephew Grant Novak and his wife Martha. Stepchildren Gary Cooke and his wife Sharon, Stephen Cooke jr. and his wife Judith, Shelly Cooke, Katheryn Cooke and Ellen -Anne Ross and her husband Gary.
    She was predeceased by her parents, husband Stephen C. Cooke and a brother Ralph Guillow.
    A graveside service and burial will take place at Bridport Central Cemetery at a later date to be announced in the spring.
    The family would like to thank the staff at The Residence at Otter Creek and Addison County Home Health & Hospice for the excellent care they provided for Margaret.
    Memorial donations may be made to Addison County Home Health, 254 Ethan Allen Hwy., New Haven VT. 05472.

Sheila Jean Holbrook-Coombs-Sherman

New Haven – Sheila Jean Holbrook-Coombs-Sherman, 81, went to join her beloved son, Andrew Sherman, in Heaven after a long illness on Saturday, December 24, 2016. Sheila was surrounded by her loving family and staff in the Memory Care Unit at the Helen Porter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury, VT.
    Sheila loved music, sewing, crafting and shopping. She also enjoyed board and lawn games, especially croquet.
    Sheila was born, June 17, 1935 in Swanton, VT to Herbert Prouty Holbrook, Sr. and Viola (Hemmingway) Holbrook. She graduated from Beeman Academy in New Haven, VT. Sheila married Charles R. Coombs and resided in Brattleboro, VT until his passing in 1967. In 1969, Sheila married the love of her life Robert P. Sherman, Jr. of New Haven, VT. She spent many cherished hours with her daughter Susan Coombs of Poultney, son Chris Coombs of Leicester, grandchildren, Lauren J. Higbee and her husband, Daniel S. Seals of Townsend, VT; Derek C. Coombs and his wife, Chelsea of Dover, NH.; Ryan R. Coombs of Memphis, TN; and great-grandson Henry C. Coombs. She also leaves her twin sister Shirley Winningham and husband Cleo of Bangor Maine; sister, Marjorie Wetherell and husband Rodney of Johnson City, TN; and a brother, Herbert P. Holbrook, Jr. and his wife Charlotte of Westboro, MA. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and friends. She was predeceased by both parents; her first husband Charles; and her son Andrew.
    Graveside services will be held in the spring, 2017. In Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven.
    In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Kurn Hattin Homes for Children, PO Box 127 Westminster, VT 05158. A foundation Sheila held close to her heart.
