VUHS wrestling coach Scott Bissonette was in a unique position this past weekend as wrestling history was being made. On the mat was VUHS wrestler Brandon Cousino who was wrestling in the Granville Tournament. At the end of the match Cousino was victorious and had tied the 139 career wins of his coach. “It’s now time to raise the bar and set a new goal for future Commodore wrestlers,” remarked Coach Bissonette. “Brandon tied my VUHS career win record of 139 and he still has most of his season to go. It’s been the record for the past sixteen years, but I am very proud of the wrestler that I had the pleasure of coaching to be the one to break it. I am very proud of this great young man and athlete and the season is still young and who knows where the record will end up.”
In fact, before the day was done, Cousino added another win and left the tournament with 140 career wins under his belt. Cousino is a senior at VUHS and also a member of National Honor Society and active in the community with the Vergennes Lions Club. At the beginning of the season he set some huge goals and appears to be on his way toward a senior year for the record books not only for Vergennes but for the state as well. The Valley Voice will follow his season and update the readers as it continues.
