1600 residents of the Tri-Town Water District covering the towns of Bridport, Addison, and Shoreham were without water for a time after a major break occurred in a main service line near the plant and storage tank.  The break was discovered late Thursday evening, December 15th, 2016 and work crews began immediately to fix the problem but not before a large volume of water had escaped on to the plants service road and parking lot.
A series of unusual events compounded the problem for officials including a nearby auto accident that caused a generator to start which malfunctioned causing the fire. A large fire in Orwell also had an effect as Shoreham firefighters used water from Tri-Town to fill some of their equipment to fight that blaze.  And to make matters even worse another break in the line that services customers along 22A had to be dug up and repaired.  It is now back in order as well.
Tri-Town Water District Chairperson Darwin Pratt told The Valley Voice on Tuesday Morning, December 20th 2016 that it has been a hectic time for the District and its customers including a score of the largest dairy farms in the state.  “We were very concerned about getting this fixed as quickly and safely as possible under the circumstances,” he explained.  “As of the moment, (Tuesday Morning 9 a.m. Dec 20th), We will stay with the boil water directive for drinking water as a precautionary measure and we will lift that as soon as we can.”
Pratt was quick to express thanks to the “many organizations who stepped in and helped us in our time of need.”  He  wanted to express the district's gratitude to the Vergennes, Panton Water District for all of  their assistance.  He wanted to thank the work crews for their timely and tireless work on getting the repairs made and getting the facility at Tri-Town back into service, and to the 1600 customers of the Tri-Town Water District, Pratt wanted to thank them for their patience and perseverance as water service returns to normal.  The current Tri-Town Water District system was built and put into service in 1963.  It is the first time that anything like this has occurred.
