Since the communication explosion people all over the world are instantly linked to stories that both stagger the imagination, broaden the mind and some that warm the heart. One such event began in the real world and was replayed in the cyber world for millions to see. A blind child sat on the steps of a building with the cold winds whipping through his coat. At his feet was a hat and in a stand a sign with the sentence, “I am blind, please help.” An individual walking by dropped some coins in the hat and after looking at the sign picked it up and changed the wording and returned the sign to its place facing people. As people passed they began to stop and more people stopped to talk and to share coins with the child. On his way home from work the same man stopped by to see if his efforts had paid off. Recognizing his voice and step the child asked, “Were you the one who changed my sign? What did you write?” The man answered the child, “I only wrote the truth. I said exactly what you did in a different way.” “Today is a beautiful day and I can’t see it.” So as the Thanksgiving turkey is being carved, the pies cool and the cacophony of aromas and people’s voices fill your homes, let’s all consider the concept of thanks and giving. Separately the words are small and powerful, but joined together they form not only an American tradition of gathering in groups, but the beginning of a season of celebration, reflection, and giving. May your Thanksgiving be a mixture of both thanks and giving and from the Valley Voice family our blessings to you and yours for a wonderful season and year ahead.
