It's always a pleasure to be around people who enjoy their work and can communicate that joy to others with great food and service. At Green Peppers  on Washington Street in Middlebury owner Mark Perrin does just that along with a 20 person staff that will go the extra mile to see that their customers are satisfied.
The restaurant has been a mainstay here in town for years and is one of the oldest establishments of it's kind in Addison County.  Comfortable seating for in-house dining and smooth swift take out is available.  The menu is amazing.  You can have a pizza with very traditional toppings or something more adventurous, makes no difference, it will be fresh and baked the way you like it.  Regulars know that at Green Peppers, the flavors and aroma brings you in and the service brings you back.
We spoke with Owner Mark Perrin recently and he took us on a wonderful travelog of his career in the business from his original purchase of Zachary's Pizza 35 years ago to October of 2016 and preparing for the Friday lunch customers of this particular day.  Mark is an excellent communicator and it is just plain fun to listen to him talk about the growth and development of his business over the years.
“You can't work in isolation, that's for sure,” he says believing strongly that interpersonal relationships are vital if one is to run a restaurant or any business for that matter, successfully.  “There are two sides to the equation if you want to run a successful business, there's the income side and there's the expense side.   Also, there is the expectation that you have a consistent, high quality product at a price that most people will feel comfortable.”  He went on to explain that everything you do will affect the income or the expense side of the business and that with the explosion in Social Media use,  now more than ever in the past,  more and more people can react to what you do.  “If you're falling down, you’re going to get blasted on social media.”
Green Peppers  has withstood the test of time  in Middlebury and with Mark as its owner has to be pleased about the growth and popularity of his restaurant.  “I am happy.  I mean I've been in this business for thirty-five years and on the one hand I feel very lucky.  Jim Rubright I think has been here the longest and then perhaps Fire and Ice and I think that we are in there at around number three for consistent family ownership.” he recalled.
My stepdaughter Amy is the  manager here at the restaurant, I think we are appreciated and we are grateful for Amy the next generation that reflects that.  My wife Donna grew up on a dairy farm which is 24-7 and I think that the restaurant business is right behind that.  Being involved as a family is important to us and  to our customers.”
The menu at Green Peppers is something that customers have become very comfortable with.  They know what to expect and the familiar flavors are always there.  We asked Mark about whether expectations bring customers back.  Mark's answer, “Absolutely.”  Repeat business is the key to any restaurant's longevity.
Green Peppers has become a go-to favorite in Middlebury for great pizza, fresh salads and soups including a French Onion that is amazing.  Subs and Clubs, Savory Pasta Dishes, Tasty Fries and Onion Rings add more choices.  Tacos are also a local favorite.  Save room for desert.  Maybe some apple crisp or mud pie.   Since 1982 Green Peppers has maintained a goal of always offering a fresh, quality, price sensitive meal to the whole family whether they din in or take out. Visit them on Washington Street in Middlebury, call 1-(802) 388-3164, or check them out online at www.greenpeppersrestaurant.com.  By the way, I think  I'll have the clam chowder please.
