Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 10am till 2pm visitors and area residents alike had an opportunity to enjoy guided tours deep into the OMYA open pit quarry here in Middlebury.  The event is always a popular late summer happening in Addison County.  Bus tours bring visitors deep into the gigantic deposit of calcium carbonate.  Geologists are available to explain what the company does with the crushed and milled white marble and people are amazed at the number of consumer goods that contain it.  Consumer products number in the thousands.  Many other types of mineral samples were on display and the OMYA staff  and volunteers gave guests an opportunity to learn more about the companies operations here in Middlebury.
