John Diegel’s parents John and Donna Diegel began Honeymoon Kitchens in Pennsylvania in 1995 and moved the business and bakery to Vermont in 1996. John grew up in the bakery helping his parents and loved it so much he bought the business from them in 2004 and has been at the helm since.
Famed for all kinds of delectable treats, Diegel focused mostly on the cookie side of the business in the first ten years. His wife Jessie joined the business in 2015 when the couple’s son entered kindergarten and Honeymoon Kitchens expanded to add cakes and pies. The couple can always be found working together in the kitchen making the famed Molasses Ginger and Chocolate Chip Cookies, with a growing following asking for their Flourless Chocolate Cake, Carrot Cake, Coconut Cake and even restaurants calling for their Key Lime Pie. “We are expanding our special order cake business,” explained Jessie Diegel. “We feature creatively decorated cakes for birthdays and other special occasions.”
People looking for the scrumptious products listed above and many more can reach out to the couple at www.honeymoonkitchens.com, on Facebook at www.facebook.com/honeymo
onkitchens or call and leave a message at (802) 377-3062. The cookies, pies and cakes are sold at Healthy Living Market, Lantman’s Market, Middlebury Natural Food Co-Op, Natural Provisions, Shelburne Market and Small City Market. If you are dining out the Black Sheep Bistro currently has on their menu the Honeymoon Kitchens Coconut Cake, Key Lime Pie and Flourless Chocolate Cake. If the website shows items currently sold out, please get in touch because the Diegels love special and custom orders. Please give them a week’s notice.
John and Jessie often sing while they work together in the kitchen and grew up surrounded by people who loved to prepare food and eating together as a family. “My grandmother starting teaching me to bake before I was even walking properly,” explained Jessie. “She taught me to bake brownies, cookies and cakes before I was eight.” Baking and art has always been a hobby for Jessie and it has been great to expand on that family tradition. John grew up in a foodie household and remembers his grandmother priding herself on the cooking and delicious meals. John learned from his parents and his family and merges his own creative nature with the foods and recipes that bring joy to others.
“We simply both love to see the satisfied look on people’s faces when they bite into our baked goods and the happiness that results,” concluded the Diegels. “We like that our efforts bring joy to others.” You can order or purchase Honeymoon Kitchens breads, cookies and desserts to experience Vermont quality products first hand made from scratch with love and artistry and they are yet another reason why life in the Champlain Valley is happy, healthy and Vermont made.
