Meet Bristol Rescue Squad Member Eleanor Scully

Eleanor Scully has been a nurse for fifty-six years and a member of rescue squads for forty-one years. She and her husband moved to the area twenty-six years ago after living and working in New Jersey. When asked what keeps her involved so heavily with Bristol Rescue, Eleanor smiled and said, “Simply want to help others. There is a satisfaction in being there to help others.” Bristol Rescue has twenty-two active members whose shifts cover 24-7 in order to meet people’s needs. Eleanor is one of seven who are certified as an Advanced EMT. “My daughter keeps asking me when I am going to retire,” chuckles Eleanor. “When we moved up that was our original goal. I just haven't gotten there yet,” which is an understatement since Eleanor covers five twelve hour shifts each week and has no plans for slowing down. And even with six kids, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Eleanor finds time to balance it all. The Valley Voice salutes Eleanor Scully for her passion for people, her professional knowledge and dedication as a volunteer. People like Eleanor are one of the many reasons living in the Champlain Valley is more than an address; it is a blessing and a place so many proudly call home.
