Wrestling With Purpose

VUHS junior Brandon Cousino has had a year for the record books. As one of the top ranked wrestlers in New England with his senior year still to come, Cousino could sit back and perhaps take some time. However sitting back is not on the agenda. This year Brandon Cousino went one step further and linked his success on the wrestling mat to dollars for programs in the community. After hearing about all the different impacts the Lions Club has on the local community, Cousino reached out and asked to partner up. “ I went to local businesses and community members,” shared Cousino. “ For each win or pin I had this season, they made a donation to me and that money would then go to the Lions Club for their program use.” On Wednesday, June 1st, Cousino presented the Vergennes Lions Club with a check for $ 2054.00 and announced that he had bigger plans for fund raising for his senior year. “What an inspiration,” remarked Lion Larry Simino. With an aggressive wrestling and training schedule this summer, there is little doubt that Cousino's senior year will indeed shatter records both on and off the mat. Just another example of people helping people and seeing the service component pass from generation to generation.
