Yvonne Brown opened the first Nadeau’s Playschool and licensed childcare center in Williston in 2001. Nadeau’s specializes in children from six weeks old until they go to kindergarten and is known for offering a child care setting that promotes healthy, social and educational futures. Nadeau’s Playschool South is located just a little north of the junction of Route Seven and Old Hollow Road in North Ferrisburgh  and is open Monday- Friday from 6:30a.m.- 6:00 p.m. for enrolled families with Danielle Pouliot serving as the director.
While it might surprise the readers to know, Nadeau’s is not just a place where daycare or babysitting occurs. “At a young age we teach the children how to communicate their needs by using sign language,” explained Danielle Pouliot. “For instance, children don't usually start speaking until they are around a year old. By teaching an infant around six months old how to communicate things such as ‘drink’, ‘more’ and ‘all done’ we are able to meet their needs more fully. Nadeau's is a play based center. We believe that learning is best done through playing and exploring in a safe environment. Each classroom is equipped with age appropriate toys and activities so as children grow and develop they continue to be stimulated with new and exciting discoveries. Our teachers all have a background in a teaching related field and each classroom will develop a weekly curriculum centered on a theme. This curriculum will include things like art projects, outside exploration in a fenced playground, supervised walks/field trips, sensory activities, singing/playing instruments and more.” Both Nadeau's Playschool and Nadeau's Playschool South are part of The Vermont Early Learning Standards. VLS helps to inform families about the development and capabilities of children age birth through 3rd grade and helps guide educators in the selection of curriculum and development. VLS highlights the importance of high quality childhood experience as a foundation for school success and lifelong learning.   These are concepts the teachers at both Nadeau's locations also agree is very important.
In addition, the Williston location is a 4 STAR program. STARS stands for Step Ahead Recognition Program. STARS is a quality recognition program for child care providers in Vermont.  Child care programs that participate in STARS are going above and beyond state regulations to provide professional service that meets the needs of children and families.  The Ferrisburgh location will also be 4 STARS and that is something we will be working on diligently.  For more information on the STARS program, readers can go to http://dcf.vermont.gov/childcare/providers/stars.
Nadeau’s is currently enrolling for all age groups 6 weeks through Pre-school.  Readers who would like information can contact Danielle Pouliot, for a tour and more information.  “Pre-school will fill up fast the closer we get to summer vacation,” explained Pouliot, “so I encourage readers to call sooner rather than later.”
Children are at the heart of all they do and Nadeau’s welcomes people to stop by or call for more information. And perchance, if you are driving by with your windows down and hear the laughter of happy children, it will put a smile on your face and help you remember those wonderful experiences of being little and the world being your teacher, friend and playground. Feel free to check out the Facebook page Nadeau’s Playschool South or the main website at http://www.nadeausplayschool.com/, with twenty six years of experience helping to raise and educate Vermont’s children. Yet another group of caring people dedicated to the health, growth and development of our most important legacy, our children and the next generation to call this valley home.
