Joseph Michael Sullivan

Loving son, brother, uncle and best friend Joseph Michael Sullivan left us and joined his family in heaven on October 13 to spend eternity with his beloved father, and his best friends Bert & Ernie. Due on May 10th, Joe was born in Burlington, Vermont on June 8, 1971. He was one month late for his own birth. He was a proud graduate of the Vergennes Union High School Class of 1989, and served as the Student Council President, and member of the FFA.
Joe dedicated his life to the health and well-being of the community in which he lived by committing his entire professional career to the City of Vergennes. His 20 year career culminated with him achieving and practicing as a Vermont Grade 5 Waste Water Treatment Operator. He acted as both the Chief and Assistant Chief.
Joe was a dedicated public servant. He was a member of the Son's of the American Legion Squadron 14 for many years. Joe served as Squadron Commander as well as District and State Officer positions during his tenure. Following in his father's footsteps, he also was a member of the Memorial Day Parade Committee.
Professionally Joe owned and managed multiple fantasy sports teams; the Water Doctors, the Cleveland Steamers of the NHFFL, and the Canadian Clubbers of the Otter Creek Baseball League. His knowledge and analytical approach was greatly respected by his peers and yet typically kept him out of the Championships.
Joe's love of the outdoors was evidenced by his time at Duck Camp and Deer Camp, and his memberships in The Lake Champlain Walleye Association, Duck's Unlimited- Dead Creek Chapter and the Otter Creek Red Neck Yacht Club.
Joe was introduced to motocross by his best friend Gregg Lynk. They enjoyed many races, trips, and wild adventures together throughout the years.
Joe had many great accomplishments, but most especially his June 29, 2004 hole in one at the Ralph Myhre Golf course. He was also proud of his first place finish in the 1st Annual Slang Shootout Snowmobile Race.
Joe is survived by his mother, Frances Ann Sullivan, brother Sean (Tonnie), sister Michelle Eastman (Glen) sister Martha DeGraaf (John) and brother Christopher. He also leaves the true joys of his life, nephews and nieces; Brendan and Godson George Sullivan, Hannah, Kristin, Madeline and Gunnar DeGraaf. He also leaves many special aunts, uncles, cousin, and best friends. Joe was predeceased by his Father Michael in 2006, and by his grandparents, Kenneth & Mary Sullivan, and Dr. and Mrs. George Wisell.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to the Son's of the American Legion Squadron 14 Scholarship Fund, 100 Armory Lane, Vergennes, VT 05491 Attn: Tim Dowdy. The family also requests you be a few minutes late for your next appointment, take a moment to listen and help someone, make someone laugh, give them a hug, or reflect on the beautiful landscapes of Vermont. A charitable trust in Joe's name will be established to honor his legacy in the near future.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Monday October 19th at St. Peter's Church in Vergennes. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in Vergennes.
