South Burlington is in the throws of a difficult start in 2015 (0-4) and hoped to get their first win of the season at Middlebury.  That would prove difficult against a Tiger Defensive unit that has improved every week, allowing just under 12-points per game.
A win at Middlebury would be a season changer for a well coached South Burlington team.
The odds were not good at all.  The Tiger's home field record is one of the best to be found in Vermont Division One High School Football.
This game  marks the half way point of the 2015 season for both teams.  Could Middlebury's Defense continue to be their main-stay or would the Tiger's new found offensive dynamic prove to be the difference?  Would the Rebels be able to shore up their defense after giving up 173-points in four games so far this year? These answers were a definitive no.
   Middlebury Momentum Continues
South Burlington quarterback Tommy DeMag looked more like Tom Brady on the Rebels first series of the game.  He completed five short passes in a row to his wide outs and was moving into the red zone when the Tiger Defense stopped them four and out at the 27-yard line. Three procedure penalties in a row also slowed the Rebel drive.  They would never score, although they were deep in Tiger territory three more times in the first half, only to be turned away by big Tiger defensive plays.  Jerry Niemo and Oakley Gordon shut off the right corner and Andrew Gleason and Parker Gross did the same on the other side for the rest of the game.  The Tiger's defensive front four were on the prowl all night.
Six Touchdown Performance for Tigers
Middlebury was businesslike on offense with Gordon executing the option with much more confidence in game five. On their first touch down drive, Middlebury marched down the field on the legs of Ali Abdul-Sater, Trey Kaufmann, and Cortland Fischer. Gordon found Chase Messner at the left pylon and threw a strike from 19-yards out.  He then kicked the extra point and the Tigers never looked back.
Trey Kaufmann picked up where he left off the week before and at 6:41 left in the half, he raced around the left side to score from 7yards out.
So. Burlington had the ball on the Tiger 24 yard line with time slipping away in the first half.  A solid Oakley Gordon defensive play in the end zone stopped that threat. At the half it was 14-0 Middlebury.
Second Half All Tigers...New Faces Appear
So. Burlington has plenty of talent, but they made too many unforced errors in this one.  They are very tough and they can hit, but penalties and turnovers hurt the visiting Rebels. Middlebury took advantage of every single Rebel miscue.  The Tigers added four more touchdowns in the second half with several new faces getting into the act on both sides of the ball.
Parker Gross spelled Fischer at fullback for the Tigers and scored in the third and fourth quarters. Kyle Desabrais pounded one in from the 4-yard line after setting up the score with 7-yard blast up the middle and junior Spencer Carpenter showed that he can bring some game with several power runs of his own in the 4th quarter.
The Tigers were able to play more people this week and those who did, stepped up.  Big Dawson “Diesel” McGrath  a junior at six-three 235lbs showed quickness on the pass rush in the fourth quarter.
If you were scouting the Tigers, you would have to report that they have talent and skill throughout their roster.   They are now 5-0, after an impressive 41-0 win over South Burlington in a game that was officially put on running time early in the 4th quarter. Essex is next at Doc Collins.
