Gordon Roy Ketcham

BRANDON: Gordon Roy Ketcham, age 89, died Sunday, August 16, 2015, at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.
    Gordon was born in Rutland on January 17, 1926. He was the son of Deighton and Gladys (Johnson) Ketcham. He grew up on the family farm in Whiting and received his early education in local Whiting schools. He tried to join the U.S. Armed Forces during WW II, but when they discovered he was a farmer he was declined. He has been a resident of Brandon since 1961. Gordon had a very eventful life. He was proud of his farming abilities and woodsman skills, and was well known for his story telling abilities. He was a master mechanic when it came to small engine repairs. He had worked for C.V.P.S. in many capacities from lineman to meter reader. He retired in 1987 following more than 27 years of service. He and his wife spent 17 years of their retirement in Leesburg, FL, where he learned to play golf. Always valuing work, Gordon was hired as a foreman for Sunny Delight orange juice while wintering in Florida, but always returned to Vermont in the summers. He was an avid reader and gardener, and enjoyed the mental challenges of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Gordon’s great love was his family. He took great pride in caring for his home and property. He was a member of St. Paul’s Masonic Lodge #25 F. & A.M., and belonged to the Brandon Congregational Church. He also was an official member of several coffee groups that meet regularly. He valued their friendship and camaraderie, for many years.
    Surviving is his wife; Mary Dunshee Ketcham of Brandon; whom he married, in the congregational church, on October 19, 1946, 1 son; Stephen E. Ketcham & his wife Chris of Middlebury and a daughter; Laurie Jean Rudloff & her husband Robert, Jr, of Las Vegas, NV, 2 brothers; Ted Ketcham of Whiting and Thomas Ketcham of Brandon, 5 grandchildren; Peter S. Antos-Ketcham & his wife Katie, Seth Mobley & his wife Katie, Robert W. Rudloff, III & his wife Jenn G, Timothy P. Rudloff and Andrew J. Rudloff, 5 great grandchildren; Oliver F. Mobley, Bailey E. Antos-Ketcham, Carter John Antos-Ketcham, Sylvia C. Mobley and Robert W. Rudloff, IV. Several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by a brother John Ketcham and 3 sisters; Sylvia Freemantle, Elizabeth Visi and Irene Brown.
    The memorial service “In Celebration of his Life” was held on Thursday, August 20, 2015, at The Brandon Congregational Church. The Rev. William Bartholomew, Pastor officiated.
    A private graveside committal service and burial will take place, at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon.
    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in his memory to; The Brandon Free Public Library, 2 Franklin St. Brandon, VT 05733 or to the Recreational Fund for the residents, at Porter Health & Rehab, Porter Circle, Middlebury, VT 05733.
    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
