Janet Smith Brown

BRANDON: Janet Smith Brown, age 81, died Monday, July 27, 2015, at her home in Brandon.
    Mrs. Brown was born in Brandon on April 22, 1934. She was the daughter of Carl and Mildred (Gove) Smith. She grew up in Brandon where she received her early education, and was graduated from Brandon High School, class of 1953. Following graduation she had worked for Burlington Cable Company. August 6, 1954 she married Francis “Bud” Brown in Brandon. Mr. Brown predeceased her March 25, 2009. After raising her family she had been employed by Clifford’s Sears Store for several years. She later worked as an aide in the Infirmary at the Brandon Training School for several years. She and her husband had owned and operated Union Street Grocery from 1980 until retiring in 1989. They travelled for several years enjoying the sights of this great country. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilt making.
    Surviving is her son; Daniel Brown of Rutland, 2 daughters; Julie Brown of Bristol and Mamie Rasmussen of Pittsford, 2 sisters; Anita Morgan and Victoria “Vicki” Wetmore both of Brandon and a brother, Carl Smith of Ocala, FL. 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her. She was also predeceased by 3 infant children; Colleen, Diane and Edward and a brother, Chester Smith and a sister Patricia Taylor.
    The graveside committal service and burial took place on Thursday, July 30, 2015, at the Old Goshen Community Cemetery.
    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; The Brandon Area Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 232, Brandon, VT 05733.
    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
