Leon “Bucky” Ellsworth Shackett

LEICESTER: Leon “Bucky” Ellsworth Shackett, age 77, died early Monday, April 13, 2015, at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury. He was a lifelong Leicester resident.
    “Bucky” was born in Leicester on July 21, 1937. He was the son of Leon P. and Ethel (Swenor) Shackett. He grew up on the family farm. He received his early education, in local Leicester schools, and was graduated from Brandon High School, class of 1956. During his 4 years in high school he had played catcher for the baseball team.
    He had worked as a Dairy Farmer in his earlier with his brother Roy. He had served the town of Leicester as a Selectman, for several terms. He had also snow plowed Leicester roads for many years, and had served the town as the Health Officer. Following the death of his brother Roy he embarked on a new occupation, as a driver for Nexus Corporation. He retired in 2007 following 25 years of service. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
    Surviving is his wife; Shirley (Betourney) Shackett of Leicester; whom he married in St. Monica’s Catholic Church on August 24, 1957, 3 daughters; Linda Greeno & her husband Chuck of Pittsford, Stacey Hotte & her husband Steve of Shoreham and Ethel Disorda & her husband Tim of Forestdale. 7 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by a daughter; Sherry Lynn Shackett in 2005 and 2 brothers; Roy Shackett in 1981 and Roderick Shackett in 2005.
    The graveside committal service and burial took place, on Friday, April 17, n the family lot, at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

 

 Janet Ann Hurst

NORTH CLARENDON: Janet Ann Hurst, age 73, died Thursday, April 9, 2015, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
    Mrs. Hurst was born in New Britain, CT on February 4, 1942. She was the daughter of Rene and Erma (Hannah) Paquin. She grew up in Newport, VT and received her education from Sacred Heath Catholic School. August 25, 1962 she married Charles Richard Hurst in Newport. They made their home in Alexandria, Virginia until returning to Vermont in 1979. Mr. Hurst predeceased her on October 7, 2012. She had worked as a Coder for General Electric in Rutland for many years, until being forced to retire due to ill health. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery and computer games.
    She is survived by her daughter; Heather Marie Hurst of North Clarendon, her sisters; Rita Palmer and Grace Aines both of Brandon and her uncle Bernard Paquin & his wife Linda of Wallingford, special niece & nephew Vickie & Shawn Genier and grand nephew; Kameryn Genier all of Leicester. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her.
    A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, April 13, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon. The Rev. Vincent Onunkwo was the celebrant. A private graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date, in Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon.
    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; Regional Ambulance Service, 275 Stratton Road, Rutland, VT 05701.
    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
