Lola Benedict - 107 years old

Lola Belle Benedict died 3-20-2015 at the age of 107. She was born 6-2-1907 in Sheldon, VT to Mable & Carlos Lawrence. In 1937 she married Raymond Hezekiah Benedict, the son of Ransom and Lora Benedict who had a grocery store on Merchants Row in Middlebury. Lola taught lower elementary school grades for many years. She and Ray lived for about 25 years in Montreal where Raymond worked for US Border & Customs agencies. They eventually retired back to Essex Junction, VT. Lola’s husbands aunt was named Lula, his sisters middle name was Lulu & his grandmother, Viola. She and Raymond enjoyed visiting his sister, Ruth Lulu Wright of Bridport every summer for usually a week every year and the yearly annual E.E. Wright Farm family reunion.
    She was well taken care of at Pillsbury Manor in Burlington and also by her step granddaughter, Laurie Murphy & son Scott.
    She was pre-deceased by her parents, husband Ray, her stepdaughter Virginia Benedict Peltier, and stepson Paul Benedict. Lola is survived by her step granddaughter, Laurie & son Scott Murphy & many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Judith Betty Brodsky

BRANDON: Judith Betty Brodsky, age 84, died January 31, 2015, at Hebrew Home in Rockville, MD.
    Mrs. Brodsky was born in The Bronx, New York, on November 25, 1930. She was the daughter of George and Anna (Hanser) Lipton. She grew up in the Forest Hills neighborhood of Queens, NY, where she received her early education. She was graduated from Forest Hills High School in Queens, class of 1949. She earned her degree from Queens College, class of 1953. Following her graduation from college, Judy worked for cargo carrier Seaboard World Airlines which enabled her to travel to Europe and back while she was in her 20’s. Travel and history were her passions, and she loved to visit Italy best of all. November 26, 1958 she married Bernard Brodsky in New York City. She and her husband retired to Brandon in 1986, moving here from Kings Park, Long Island. Mr. Brodsky predeceased her on January 22, 2000.
    Survivors include 2 sons; Peter M. Brodsky of Seattle, WA and Paul H. Brodsky of Washington, DC, and her daughter Robin J. Brodsky, recently of Durango, CO, her brother, Ray Lipton of New Smyrna Beach, FL. 2 grandchildren; Luke and Alexander and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her. She was also predeceased by a brother, Bernard “Bobby” Lipton.
    The graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date, at The Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, VT.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
