A Special Birthday Brings Together Four Generations

When Arland Steady and his wife Ellen arrived at American Legion Post #14 this past weekend they knew they were going to celebrate Arland’s 90th birthday, but what the pair did not know was the amount of people who were there to help them celebrate. The couple was expecting immediate family and was delighted to find nearly 100 people and four generations of Steady’s ready to reminisce, eat, laugh and help commemorate the milestone of Arland turning 90. A photo of the couple just after they had met was sitting on the table and Ellen proudly showed it to all of her grandchildren who stopped to hear the story just one more time of how the couple had met.
While the party got loud and joyous, Arland’s smile never wavered and his easygoing attitude seemed to encompass all those around him. He was having a ball and to anyone stopping in to wish the family well it was easy to see why Vermonters are such a hearty group. They cherish family and above all relish those times when schedules are set aside and the business at hand is being together and documenting the birthday of the leader of the clan.
