A firefighter continues to vent the still smoldering hay blaze with his pike pole about two hours after the initial assault, while another fireman stands by to cover him at hose point with a curtain of water if needed.

Multiple response was the order of the morning when Addison County Firefighters answered the call  to what could have been an even more destructive blaze on Daniels Road in the Town of New Haven.
Fire erupted in a large corrugated metal building containing tons of hay and some equipment at the Rail View Dairy Farm .  The storage facility was located  near a cluster of other structures potentially threatening them as well.
New Haven volunteers were first on scene and immediately went to work on an inferno that was melting away some of the siding on the metal structure when they arrived on scene. They quickly called for mutual aid at just about daylight on Tuesday, September 30th 2014.
Firefighters from several surrounding towns also converged on the burning building to assist.  Access to the blaze was tight because of the rural, narrow, un-paved, road leading to the fire scene.
Fire departments  fighting the blaze were also transporting water to the fire in tanker trucks.  The farm is owned and operated by the Livingston family and has been a fixture in the town for decades.
There were no injuries reported.  The farm's dairy cows remained out of harms way and thanks to quick, co-ordinated action by firefighters the blaze was contained and knocked down.  The cause of the fire was not officially determined by the end of the day.  The building however appeared to be a total loss.
One neighbor told the Voice near the fire scene, “We have excellent fire service in this county.”
