Gladys (Griffin) Patnode

ORWELL: Gladys (Griffin) Patnode, age 95, died July 29, 2014 in Norfolk, Virginia.
    She was born in Sudbury on December 14, 1918 the only daughter of Delmar and Mildred (Jenks) Griffin.
    She received her early education at the Sudbury Hill School and was graduated from Middlebury High School at the age of 75. She married Thomas Patnode on May 5, 1939 in Orwell, where they lived and raised their family. She lived in Middlebury for many years then moved to Alburg and finally to Norfolk, VA. She established the 60+ Club in Orwell, ran the Orwell lunch program, volunteered at Porter Hospital and enjoyed making cards and telling stories.
    Surviving are 3 sons; Charles “Skip” Patnode and Donald Patnode & his wife Connie of Norfolk, VA and George Patnode & his wife Joan of Alburg. 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and a sister in law also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband Tom on April 7, 1980, all 5 of her brothers, a daughter in law and 1 granddaughter.
    The graveside committal service and burial was held on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at Mountain View Cemetery in Orwell.
    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; The Orwell 60+ Club, 214 Rte. 73, Orwell, VT 05760.
    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
