Meeting Hannah Hurlburt, owner of The Good Witch, is a serendipitous event on many levels, for The Good Witch is more than it seems and even more than it is possible to imagine in just one visit. Hannah’s store, located oat 66 Main Street, in Middlebury, Vermont is a costume lover’s dream with custom costumes, retro costumes, masques, face tattoos, hair dye of all colors and avant guard make up. If browsing the selection does not suit your fancy, Hannah designs and creates with an eye to detail that is worthy of professional theater level work. “I have spent my whole life dressing up and loving costumes,” shared Hannah Hurlburt. “Halloween is simply my favorite holiday of the year, but costumes are about so much more than that. Dressing up allows us the chance to become a character, executing that in a way that is to the very best on the creation spectrum and to enjoy.” The Good Witch carries an assortment of costumes that include tribal, native influenced, pirates and mermaids.
When she was not participating in theater, singing and performing as a child, Hannah spent thousands of hours learning the skills of being a seamstress from her mother.  While she honestly remembers cutting, sewing and creating her own costume as early as ten years old, Hannah also perfected the skills necessary for the second phase of her business. In addition to designing, creating and sewing costumes, Hannah is a tailor and offers alterations ranging from the simple to the complex, right on Main Street in Middlebury. “It is such a pleasure to come in here,” shared customer Jean Salch. “Hannah makes you feel good, comfortable and in a gentle way also makes sure what you are altering is flattering to you. She truly is all about giving and sharing simple joy and love.”
While costumes and tailoring services are two thirds of the business, Hannah also offers one of the largest amounts of costumes, seasonally for me and for women all year round. With a prediction that Game of Thrones and Mermaids will be top choices for this year’s Halloween festivities, Hannah also stocks super hero costumes and masks for theater work or just for fun. With a mission of “reaching people and sharing happiness,” Hannah Hurlburt blends an intense amount of skill, creativity, passion and individuality to offer a shop on Main Street that is much more than a one time stop. The Good Witch will tickle your fancy, but will also challenge your imagination and Hannah will be there every step of the way. So, stop by the Good Witch and meet Hannah at 66 Main Street Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10 am-5:30 p.m., or shop on line her costumes, swimwear and more
www.etsy.com/shop/TheGoodWitchClothing, or check out the Good Witch on facebook. Don’t need a costume? Well then, come to see Hannah for alterations and sewing work. You will admire her skills, look sharp and just possibly will also end up the hit of the Halloween gatherings for the Champlain Valley. Hannah admits to loving vampire and superhero costumes for this year, but like the artist she is, that changes and flows as her creativity and customers dictate.
