Virginia “Jinny” McElroy Worn

BRANDON: Virginia “Jinny” McElroy Worn, age 94, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.
    Jinny was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 30, 1919. She was the daughter of John and Elfriede (Hartman) Mulreany. She grew up in Brooklyn and later moved to Mobile, AL, where she graduated from Mobile Alabama High School, class of 1937. On January 2, 1943 she married James G. McElroy at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Brooklyn. Jinny and Jim raised their children in Westfield, NJ spending many wonderful summers on Lake Hortonia and later retired to Brandon in 1986. Jim predeceased Jinny on December 20, 1991. Jinny married Philip Ross Worn at the Brandon Congregational Church on July 8, 1995 and they were fortunate to live together in Brandon for nineteen years. Jinny was friendly with every one in the community and her positive outlook and concern for others was contagious. Jinny was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Brandon. She also enjoyed the Couples Club, at the Brandon Congregational Church. She proudly served as president of both the Westfield, NJ and Brandon Garden Clubs. She volunteered at the Brandon Thrift Shop and Brandon Senior Citizens Center. Jinny’s greatest love was for her family and friends, she provided endless love and care for others and will be greatly missed.
    Surviving is her husband; Philip Ross Worn of Brandon, 2 sons; Bob McElroy of Brandon and Tom McElroy and his wife Judy of Sudbury. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren; Erin and her husband Ben, Jamey and his partner Ofer, Katherine, Ian, Christine & Kendall. 2 great grandchildren, Tom & Sam survive her as well. In addition to her first husband, she was also predeceased by a son James G. McElroy, Jr in 1976.
    A gathering of family and friends “In Celebration of Her Life’ will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2014 from 12 noon until 2 PM, at the Brandon Inn in Brandon.
    A private graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date, in Pine Hill Cemetery.
    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; The Brandon Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 237, Brandon, VT 05733 or to the Brandon Food Shelf c/o Kathy Mathis, P.O. Box 345, Brandon, VT 05733.
    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
